It's a long way off but you've got to book accommodation well in advance of any trip to Normandy around the D-Day anniversary on the 6th June. Full details of this UKBEG week in Normandy will be announced later but highlights will include tours of the area, visits to the main D-Day landmarks and D-Day Anniversary celebrations on the 6th June. Good food and drink are guaranteed ... We're staying 6 nights at the Premiere Classe Bayeux: Arrive: Sunday 3rd June Depart: Saturday 9th June Booking details: here This hotel has 74 rooms, is reasonably priced and Bayeux town centre is within easy walking distance. |

Please may I be excused from this one CJ? For new readers, CJ arranged a similar trip a few years ago, which was hugely enjoyable, we learned so much at the Arromanches visitor centre and at Pegasus Bridge, and rode some lovely roads, all very familiar to me as I'd previously done many, many business trips in the Normandy area visiting caravan importers. After the tour we promptly boarded the Cherbourg/Rosslare ferry and proceeded straight to the NW200 for the Diggertours gathering! As an official CJ trip it was, however, somewhat unique, in that CJ was unable to ride due to an eye infection So the area comes with my strong recommendation, but my measly few days holiday each year have to be put to full use, and I'm heading for Mugello & Croatia next year, before Diggertours does the Manx. |

That's a shame, but understandable during that period. A quick Google this morning shows limited accommodation available in the Bayeux area for those dates. I've found the Etap Hotel Bayeux available for the 3rd to 9th June @ 341 Euro. FYI We're paying 336 Euro for the Premiere Classe Hotel so it's a good price. |

We're amending our plans for next year which means that we will cancel this trip to Normandy. To the best of our knowledge no one has booked yet but we thought we'd make sure on here before cancelling our accommodation. |

My Grandad spent most of the war on the lookout out for German bombers......he was a lifeguard at Berlin Swimming Baths. |

I could think of no better place than this to share this wonderful obituary with you all. I know Ouistreham and Benouville like the back of my hand, I've been so many times on business. It was a revelation when I went back on the bike as a tourist. Chris, you'll do this trip eventually! |

I'm sure we'll fit Normandy into another year ... We've had a complete rethink about what we'd like to do in 2012 and this has resulted in lots more Moto Guzzi/MGCGB events and just a few Buell/UKBEG events. It'll make a nice change after years of concentrating mainly on Buells. So instead of Normandy and a 'Buell Challenge' we're undertaking a grand tour of Italy which includes the Moto Giro d'Italia, May 20th to 26th. |
