An oppo of mine won an MM down there. Took out a couple of machine gun posts - reckons he ran the wrong way and they were in his way. Guys a fekin legend. Still struggles with it all these years later.

Isn't Google a wonderful thing ;) Guess that was Gary Marshall although the citation for Mike Eccles is very similar. Think Mike was in my troop in K company but that was a long, long time ago. The same google search revealed that one of my oppos, Chris Fox, was awarded a Military Cross during the conflict as well.

Mick Eccles. Poor bugger is living on the streets most of the time and barely knows what’s going on. Mick took me under his wing when I was a young marine and he was a three badger. A fantastic guy and was a corps footballer. So sad to see what’s happened to him despite many trying to help him - seems like he’s on a slow self destruct.

Worth having a look at look at Harry Siddal’s citation too. Another ML legend - rarely talks about it. A humble and amazing guy.
