If anyone is already planning to do this, or would like to, it is one I am planning to do along with at least another 1000 bikers, and a contingent from the ZXR owners forum I help run. It involves a meeting at the Leigh Delamere services on the M4 (Junction 17 - eastbound) before the mass ride through Wootton Bassett to RAF Lyneham at 12 noon, and then a lineup on the runway of RAF Lynham (you need to pre-register on the afghan hero's website to gain access to the base) http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=231770155035&ref=mf&v=info http://www.afghanheroes.org.uk/bikersevent.asp Anyone else up for this ? Ta Ash (the 2nd ) |

If you are a member of any other forum where you think people might be interested, could you repost this there as well ? I was a marshal for a rally called 'killspills' in London for many years to try and get awareness up for Diesel spills, and we had about 8000 riders turn up one year. To be part of this will help raise funds for the injured, and families of the bereaved, and also as a biker is something really special to be a part of |

Now where are my waterproofs and thermals BTW, I was named after some geezer in 'Gone with the Wind' apparently , how about yourself (mental note don't pee off the admin) |

The minute I read about this event I just had to register for it - even though it's a 400 mile round trip. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the current conflict are, the money raised will support the troops and their families. Thinking ahead - if there's enough interest from UKBEG members perhaps we could meet up somewhere before riding to the starting point at the eastbound Leigh Delamere services, junction 17, on the M4. |

I'm in two minds about this, on one hand it's raising money for the families of the fallen troops which is great, but on the other hand, the title of in Support of Wootton Bassett. I'm not sure Bassett needs supporting, and I was talking to a Wootton Bassett local at work earlier. She said the locals just want respect and to be left alone. The money is for a very worthy cause so I'll give it some more thought. |

The money is for a very worthy cause so I'll give it some more thought. One of the C17 pilots out of Brize (who is a member of the ZXR forum I mod on) is looking to join if he isn't rostered and is looking to get the Brize riders club along as well (he like many of his fellow airmen fly a lot of these repatriation flights back in to the UK) I think you will find a lot of biking servicemen supporting this and wanting to join in. Provided it is marshaled properly, will be a dignified event through the town, and the volume of how many will likely go will not fail to leave an impact on the locals as they pass through. Every time we open a paper or turn on the telly, we see that another young man or woman serving their country has been seriously injured or lost their lives over there. Wootton Bassett has become the focus for the fallen returning and whilst the townsfolk want to pay their respects, might consider that there are other communities who want to do this as well. Wootton Bassett and RAF Lyneham are the obvious choices and the fact they have secured access to the base means that the forces are 100% behind this gesture. |

As a father of a serving infantryman, serving on his second tour of Afghanistan and he's 22, I will most certainly be attending...... any southern posse up for a short blast..... |

I'm trying B, but its mothers day ... getting out of that is a toughy. Why did they chose such an inconvenient day! |
