This informal Buell meet is being held at the Big Pit visitor centre, Blaenafon, South Wales.

Meet between 10.30 and 11.00 am.

Location details: here

All makes of motorcycle are welcome - you don't have to arrive on a Buell.

After lunch at the visitor centre we may have a 40 to 50 mile tour of the area. This will be dependent on how many people attend and the weather on the day,

Note: 'Patkin' started a topic sometime ago suggesting a ride based around this UKBEG Buell meet - details are shown here

I thought Pat had this one covered i.e. on the post you refered to
I was looking forward to meeting 11am Abergavenny bus station and then Pat's route Llandovery, cross gate then Abergavenny (or similar)
Was not planning on spending 2 hrs at Big pit visitors centre - you are best going in the car and make a day of it - it is a great trip in the pits.

please let us know what is occuring

This event on the 4th July at 'Big Pit' was entered into the 2010 events diary in the Autumn of 2009. It's part of the series of informal UKBEG Buell meets which are held at various locations throughout the UK.

I chose this location because it offers a suitable interesting meeting point with facilities and, in this case, free entry. It's the same format as the other informal Buell meets we put together.

On 12-01-10 Pat started a topic suggesting a ride on the 4th July in South Wales. The last entry on that topic is dated 28-03-10.

Perhaps Pat would be kind enough to clarify if his planned ride is still going ahead this coming Sunday.

Im fairly local and if anybody plans to make a weekend of it in case of decent weather, I am happy to organise a Wales ride out.

I have done similar for the Cagiva Raptor Chapter and more recently the Aprilia Dorsoduro/Shiver guys.

We could consider Abergavenny as the start point.

I have charted a figure of eight route crossing over at Brecon and with an alternative ending with 20 miles less depending on how people feel after a challenging but rewarding ride through breathtaking countryside.

The route:

First we ride to Brecon via Talgarth quite twisty and locally famous and then onto Llandovery, a bit more open but equally famous where we stop for lunch. Distance 48 miles.

Then we start to hit the serious twisties on B roads (In Wales, B road means B. Tight but impecable surfaces) as we ride out to Llynn Brianne reservoir (see my various pics in the DD gallery). This takes us through to Garth a distance of 30.4 miles in total but demanding high levels of concentration.

From Garth, we then cross a military range over moorland dropping down to Brecon again, a distance of 16.8 miles.

Now we have a choice:

Alt 1) those still up for more will follow me as we ride up through the Brecon Beacon national park (stop for a cuppa on the mountain) about 20 miles of lovely roads and scenery and on back to Abergavenny on the fairly boring heads of the valley road a further 18 miles.

Total ride distance 133 miles

Alt 2) If everybody is tired we can head back to Abergavenny along the gentle winding raod that is the A40 19.7 miles.

Total ride distance 115 miles

I would say this lot will be a 3 to 4 hour ride when considering stops.

Guys

Due to unforseen circumstances I am now unable to attend the Big pit venue on July 4th. Please accept my appologies.

To date we've only had two expressions of interest in this meet. It's a 400 mile round trip for us so if there's no further interest shown we will cancel it.

The next person who posts 'why isn't there a UKBEG Buell meet in my local area' will be directed to this topic.

Due to the lack of interest we've decided to cancel this Buell meet.

Most of the events/meets we put together are successful and I felt sure this location would attract a decent turnout.

Oh well, you can't win them all. Stiff upper lip and all that, onto the next one, the Peak District Meet-n-Ride on Sunday 11th July :P ..

Sorry you had to cancell CJ. I was thinking about this one, but the weather looks iffy and I have work to do if I'm going to make the 'main event'. See you soon! ;)

These aren't the type of pictures I'd expected to post today but it's funny how things work out.....

Because we weren't going to South Wales, this morning on the spur of the moment we decided to have a ride out to the Straightliners drag race meet at East Kirkby airfield, Lincs.

Glorious weather, a great ride on mostly deserted roads and a good selection of machinery ensured a grand day out.....

Our favourite bike of the day, a Triumph 850, it sounded as good as it looked :P...

Just to make our day complete and a total surprise, at lunchtime a Spitfire made six very low passes over the airfield performing various manoeuvres...

That's just it Mark, you and I can hoon around Wales 51 weeks of the year.

Chris & Jane's concept (and I speak for myself, not them) is, I believe, to include a reasonable degree of informal social content, of like minded souls, together with an interesting, inexpensive, venue.

That is, with the exception of Deliverance when social unrest is paramount :D

Didn't take any pics either, but met a friend in Pontardawe and got soaked riding through clouds over the tops of the hills and ended up in West End Cafe for Sunday lunch and 2 hours of chatting!

Sun came out and great ride back to Abergavenny bus station for a coffee, then home.

Great to be back out on the XB.
