Hallo zusammen, the planning of our big ride is getting more concrete. We have requested at our working-places the time 2011.05.23 - 2011.06.13. And I have bought the only book, which I have found about english riding-routes: http://www.amazon.com/Road-Riders-Guide ... 957&sr=8-1 OK.... I think (today), we will start our landfall in Folkestone. Than we will ride to the west, maybe through Wales, north to the lake-district and than south back through the middle of the island to Folkestone. British events, I have found at ukbeb: June 3rd to 5th: UKBEG Cumbria or Scotland Weekend June 5th: West Country Cheddar Rumble June 10th to 12th: UKBEG @ Moto GP Silverstone Want do you think? Greetings, Pascal |

Sun is not important. My girlfriend hates tents. Therefore we will sleep in B&B-places. So the clothes can dry every night. And I enjoy riding in rain (earnest ). |

Hi Pascal The Cumbria or Scotland weekend, June 3rd to 5th, is still to be confirmed. The West Country Meet, June 5th, will definitely go ahead. UKBEG @ Moto GP, June 10th to 12th, will be based around camping. You might be lucky enough to find B&B accommodation near to Silverstone but it tends to get booked up very early. |

hi pascal, enjoy your trip thru the UK. looking at your holiday dates and seeing you might like to pass thru wales :- The Welsh International Motorcycle Show on 27-29 May 2011 @ Builth Wells, Powys, Wales. From Builth there is a lovely short ride that shows of the beauty of wild wales, if you are ever in that part of the world i recommend you try this route:- http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sourc ... 45447&z=11 and then head north through snowdonia national park before making your way back to england. good luck and have fun ant |

It's a good run that I live about 40 miles from the showground. If you fancy a meal and some free camping, you could stay at my place before you travel there and I could show you the best routes through Snowdonia in N.Wales. |

@Ant: That really looks like a good track. I have put it on my list of interesting roadways! @Adam: Everybody who is talking about meals is my friend! @Dörske & Mich: Sure I can bring you a small pack of sweeties from Hans Riegel in Bonn. I stilll not have packed my saddlebags. But I think This place should be. But which one do you like? They have tons of different sweeties there. @all: As a matter of course I would be happy, if I can meet all of you and visit all of you at home. But I think, that will be a little bit fiddly in this short time on your Isle. Easiest would be, if you can send me your coordinates per E-Mail. So I can put them in my Garmin. And if we are riding through your neighbourhood I can give you a call. What do you think? My main problem/challenge today is, that my girlfriend is more interested in beauty/interesting/nice places, than at the roads between them. Yesterday she got a new book about Great Britain. And there she had read, that Wales is not interesting only England has nice places... don't ask me, who has written this book... But I think, our trip will be a mix between Motorcyle-riding and sightseeing (only question is the ratio of mixture). Anyway: If you want to have a meeting with us, here is my E-mail-address for gps-coordinates: da_freamda(at)yahoo.de |

Tell her the book is bollocks - in basic terms, draw the Tees-Exe line** on a map of the UK - everywhere to the North & West is interesting, the rest is mostly shite. **(River Tees - Middlesbrough - River Exe - Exeter/Exmouth) Wales is full of very strange people, but fabulous scenery (and roads ) Cumbria and Scotland even more so. |

That was our 3-weeks-trip four years ago. The best was the guy at the filling-station. On every price he had written: "Don't blame me. Blame Gordon." And Cumbria is the number one on my must-visit-list for this year. The lake-district is in Cumbria, or isn't it? |

Some of us older types still refer to it as Cumberland and Westmorland I wouldn't bother if I were you. You'd get the same effect taking your bike through a car wash. Don't take too much notice of wot Digger said, there's plenty of lovely areas/roads to the east of the Tees/Exe line. Just avoid the big cities. |
