You'll need something a bit more specific if you're planning on pinching his bike

I didn't mean to agree at all, i was just being polite. I really want to get something fitted still, but i'm not going to go down the alarm route.

Maybe i'll gt one of those South African systems that jets out flames and toasts the little tea leaves.

What a load of old wives, spinning their tales of woe!!

I have an '03 Firebolt 12, it's fittted with an Abletronics Absolute Protec alarm (on it when I bought it).

It's
a) never drainedthe battery,
b) never left me stranded,
c)never gone off when it shouldn't have and
d) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!! **HAS** gone off when I was in a shop and some scrotes putting their dirty paws on it!!

Don't listen to all these harbingers of doom mate.......then again, maybe I've just been lucky!!

Buy a Dog; you can train same to look after your property, it's also a good excuse for getting up at silly o'clock to go for a walk before you ride yer bike.

I had one of these alarms fitted to my City X. It went in behind the flyscreen, where the horn had been. The latter was moved to another position - below the right-hand scoop, though if I were to do it again, I think I would fit the horn to the oil cooler. An anti-tamper reed switch was fitted to the flyscreen. This sounded the alarm if the latter was removed whilst the alarm was armed.
I never had any alarm-related issues during 3 years and 16,000 miles of riding.
However, if I bought another Buell, I don't think I would fit an alarm, because I think I may well have been lucky not to have had problems.
I now have a Xena disk lock with 110db alarm which I use when my current bike is parked up outside my house overnight.

A Datatool alarm system WILL drain the battery no matter what the makers say. It was a pain on my RSV-R and it did not stop the bike from being nicked from outside my own front door. If you do not chain a bike to something they just pick it up and stick it in a van.

You can only get insurance on some bikes if you have a CAT-1 alarm. Not the normal thing for a Buell and it was one of the reasons I bought a Buell as I live in a problem area. I do not recall anyone here having one nicked. Post if you have.

They are a total waste of everything, IMO, but if you do want one it must be fitted by a Datatool dealer. You will need the paperwork to state this as the insurance company will not pay out if the bike is nicked. They asked me anyway.

Almax chains cannot be cut with with a bolt cutter and they do a good deal with a lock. A bit big and heavy to cart around though. One of those fake led things could be of use though.

Yeah i agree, noisy disclock and also the flame thrower and a few land mines in the garage should do it. Oh and good legal cover when they sue for loss of limbs.

It's true, had a datatool alarm on my first bike, a Bandit 600 (It was fitted already when I took possession okay!) and I had to have the damn thing on charge after a week of sitting in the garage.

It also used to go off at work, which I wouldn't hear, then when I finally turned it off it wouldn't start because - yes, it had drained the battery.

Was worth as much as the bike though..

D) A lucky escape.

More than 10% of the value of your bike to install something that will break, will leave you stranded, will run down your battery and will probably save you £15 a year on insurance costs.

Wipe your brow and be grateful for your good fortune, IMO. 8-)

Maybe if its garaged and you live in the countryside. Many Insurance companies wont even insure you if you live in London and have no garage or secure parking no matter how big your chain is! Also made 170 pounds differnce for me!

I always had alarms/immobilisers fitted and never had any problems.

I have a Datatool S3 on my XB12S so it will fit!
