The warranty on my 1125R will be expiring soon and at the moment everything is well - all recalls are done and the clutch has had the latest repair kit fitted. And I must be extremely lucky as I cannot see any trace of a leak from the water pump and I haven't had to keep topping up the coolant.

My concerns are what if the clutch does start leaking again - will the warranty be honoured as a goodwill gesture seeing as they have repaired it previously ?

And, what if the water pump does develop a leak - will they front up and repair it as a goodwill gesture ? It does seem to be developing into an issue as it has started to happen to a few bikes in the States - HDB even have a repair kit - R1022.1AM - ready to address this issue. But I have concerns that if I'm going to have to pay for it the repair is going to cost a small fortune ...

So, how often has HDB authorised repairs on out of warranty bikes as goodwill gestures - anybody have a happy story to tell ?

I cant say for problems (known or not) that occur after your warranty has run out. However a HD employee did tell me, if you have something replaced under warranty and it requires replacing again it should be covered even after the warranty period has expired. Apparently it is classed as an ongoing unresolved problem. The example he gave me was that if the standard exhaust is replaced due to corrosion technically they should keep replacing it even out of warranty as it is an unresolved problem. I have yet to test that theory :?

when i was at dg trying for a goodwill clam for me would be based on a few things.
1, mileage
2, service history
3, condition and how well cared for the bike is
4,do i like the customer to put the effort in

1 - 7,000 miles
2 - full service history
3 - my bikes are all tucked into bed at night and nothing is too much trouble ;)
4 - that's me fecked then !

BMW told me that replacement parts only have 12 months warranty.

Mmm! in the same boat.
Ive not done as many miles as yourself and Adam who had this woe but thinking same, how do we stand with what is a first release motorcycle with no back up from a company no longer in existence. Are we screwed or will the H-D Mother Ship step up to the mark :!: I think they should.

Out of interest, I asked my bro in Law, who runs a Trading Standards Dept in Shrewsbury, about this scenario. Under UK Consumer Law, if an issue is dealt with under Warranty and the same fault reoccurs, within a 'reasonable time' then it is deemed to not have been resolved. A further replacement under the terms of the Warranty can be insisted on. There is case law on this exact issue - I found a case for a Citroen car and a Yamaha bike with a quick search.

I think that's the case with most manufacturers. As tubbs stated it could be down to how helpful the dealer feels, unfortunately in this case they are never going to sell you a new Buell are they. Possibly a bit short sighted not all but many dealers are

My only successful attempts for goodwill claims was through a really helpful dealer (I won't name names but it was not far from Bristol ;) ).
You'll need a dealer with a generous sense of humour to expect high levels of goodwill on a end-of-line branded product sold at an absolute bottom price lOl

Ah, but those that bought the dream when it was first released did not do so at a bargain price ...

... and I can understand them not repairing something that is not a documented issue, but things like the clutch or water pump are known issues.

I think you would be covered under the sale of goods act.
i.e. If it dosen't last a reasonable time.

On my bike HD paid for the rear wheel bearings and labour on my 5k service. They also paid to collect/deliver (140 miles round trip), supply and fit a new belt. Both times it was well out of warranty. If that is not "Good will" I dont know what is because thats got to be the best part of £500 if you had to pay for it yourself.

Sorry the question asked. Well you would be lucky to get much from any bike maker IMO. I have had most and they are all much the same. Even the God of bike service BMW can be crooks, i can prove it, and Trumpets dont fair well either. It has a lot to do with your dealer IMO. DIY is the way to go and always has been.
