sorry kev, i just had to ask if she meant the first buell ever or the first s1. seems the lady on the other end took offence and took the listing down. i got the 3 following replies :rotfl: RELISTING ITEM AS DESCRIPTION/CC NEEDS TO BE ALTERED. MANY THANKS X

Hi I am truly sorry, someone has disputed the fact that it is the first buell ever and so it looks like i will need to revise the description. It remains harley's test machine as i know this is correct x

Hi, I was told by the Harley shop that it was the first Buell!! I regret that the only proof I can give you on that is if you go back to magazines around the time of manufacture and you will see write ups/snapshots of the bike. Yes the bike was recalled on several things back in the year it was purchased by the bike shop (Thames Valley Harley Davidson) that it was brought from.Hope this information is of some use to you.x Cathy x  :o

I might ask a question on ebay asking her how often she had to open the shed door and spray it with salt water to get the authentic aged look lOl

The bike was registered for road use in 1998 and does reflect its’ age in respect of wear and tear. There are no significant issues with the body work (there is a small tear in the seat, the engine could do with cleaning up, and the paintwork could do with being refreshed, as expected for a bike that is over 13 years old).

Yeah, right. It's in a hell of a state. Not many 13 year-old bikes have been as badly neglected as this one, and it makes me wonder how the engine has been treated. And with only 11,220 on the clock?!! Needs a complete strip down to clean everything up.

The bike was last MOT'd and serviced in April 2011, whereby it was in excellent working order (and a lot of fun to ride!!). Since then, it has not been started, and has been stored in a shed.

The last time that bike was in excellent working order was proobably 10 years ago.

I fully agree. Even my well (winter-)used '01 M2 looks relatively pristine compared to that after 10.5 years and 62k despite my less-than-fanatic maintenance and cleaning habits; it's fashionably popular to be cynical about Buell, but the quality of finish ia actually surprisinlgy good compared to bikes I have owned in parallel (like a rotting-happy Honda Africa Twin and dito Yamaha TDM 850). Not bad, realising that the M2 was more or less the "budget" Buell in the line-up. Then again, a yellow M2 has less beauty to lose from new I suppose compared to a S1W lOl

Wow, this thing has already reached £3000

That is just sheer madness given that you will be spending thousands- rather than hundreds to restore this sorry thing back to anywhere near its original glory. Surely you can buy a more than reasonable S1 for around 5k, saving you all the hassle and uncertainties of restoration?

I can't judge the value of this being "Harley’s test machine" and being "pre-production line": if anything, each of these qualifications alone (true or not) is enough to scare the hell out of me :rotfl:

Harley testing: Let's run this thing at 6,400 rpm for 12 hours ... now try the 50 mph crash test ... nope, that didn't go well at all either ... ;)

Will it fetch more than a 2009 CR?

I still reckon it will go for £3500+

Not sure but I got the impression all Buell CRs effectively were "pre-production" machines: One of those would make a nice collection together with this eBay wreckage. lOl
