My mate Rick just fitted a set on his 900 monster. We just rode back from a club weekend in the midlands to Kent in the pissing rain, and he said they were really impressive. Good value for money too.

The only concern I had was fitting a 180 to the rear, but that proved not to be a problem. Top notch in the wet plenty of grip. The bonus is the price, my guess is it will go up as word spreads.

But... if it was me, I would fit one and try it out. If it is rubbish, then I would get the matching one for the front then sell the old front on Begay.

If Maxxis said it would be OK, I would of course believe them, if they said it wasn't I would probably be thinking at the back of my mind that they were trying to get more money out of me.

My Uly runs the original semi nobbly Dunlop with a Qualifier on the back. No complaints with handling and plenty of miles left in the front...

Problem is Pash, the bike is off the road with the rear shock about to wing it's way to Ronnie for some TLC, and by the tim eI get it back and put an MOT and tyres on the bike I will have about 2 evenings to take her out and decide if I like the combination before I go away on a 12 day tour round the Alps. So, if I don't like it, I'm a bit stuffed as I won't have any time to get a front fitted - plus my local stockist seem to do them to order, rather than stock them. :headbang:

That said, I was thinking exactly the same as you when I sent the email, they'll probably just say you need a matched pair for 'safety reasons' ort some other bullshit. Let's see what kind of response I get, but having ridden the beast with some very very worn tryes in the past, a mismatched pair is probably not going to feel too bad anyway. :oooops:

Tight sod  .......just fit a pair......personally, I'd give the Maxxis a wide berth and go for RA2's or Mich 2CT's :)

Conti's!! :o :o No thanks. Also tried 2CT's before and just couldn't get on with them. Will see what the 'bike expert' and Protyre says tomorrow when I call him for some advice, but basically, yes I'm tight :ner:

Don't be too hasty to dismiss the Contis, they work very well with the XBs

Which, to be fair, is the reason I'm having to replace my current rear Maxxis. But at £90 fully fitted it's not too bad, even for a tightarse. Plus the route we're taking has minimal motorway, so I'm hoping they'll last at least the trip plus a few miles back over here.

As I'm a tightwad also, I only have a Diamond on the rear at present, because there is still plenty of tread left on the original (non Diamond) front. My rear has 3000 (mostly wet  ) miles on it now with plenty of tread left.
I'm not endorsing mismatched tyres, but there's a lot of bollocks talked about tyres.
As Kev said, most tyres will out perform most riders. A lot of the lack of confidence in the wet with tyres, has nothing to do with tyres at all.

hi guy's just got a pair of the Maxxis Super Diamond's 180/55/17 and the 120/70/17
question is having had maxxis in the past (CCM) they always ran a lower pressure than std
but on asking rep in shop who agreed then checked on computor he said
2.5 bar front and 2.9 bar rear or 36 and 42 psi, just seems a bit high ??
having just knoched the middle out of a diablo (squared off) on stock pressure 38 and very very little motorway miles ( but have altered decell fuelling to get some engine breaking and stop revs floating around 2000 on decell )
was just wondering what sort of pressure you guys are using on your maxxis ???
