I have always had an admiration for the Buell Companies products, and am just in the process of buying a new XB12SX 2010 model. I am a young 52 years old and have ridden bikes all my life and own a motorcycle training school.
03,I suppose that I am one of these people, jumping on the Buell bandwagon so to speak.
I must confess that I would not have paid full retail price for my XB, so yes, I was tempted by the reductions.
I have a (sorry) HD 883R which I bought new in 2002, it was my first and only harley. I uprated the suspension, 1200cc kit, supertrapp pipe, some custom made carbon goodies, screamin eagle ingnition module, coil and leads etc. No chrome, so not your usual harley rider, and the big ones do not appeal at all.
Previously I have owned, fireblades, FZR 1000 exup, VFR 750, CBR 1000, Ducati Monster etc.
I find linear smooth across the frame jap 4 cylinder bikes are so boring, the Buell is different, trick in some aspects and quite dated in others, I am under no illusion of what I am buying into.....I am not expecting a sports bike, just a good handling streetbike with a useable power, I do not expect to be disappointed.
I just do not like the look of the 1125,s although I think that are more than capable sports bikes and they were probably the best value to buy at the same price as the XB12.
I think that the factory closing is a real shame for the workers, but it is down to the global recession and cost cutting at HD, who like every business must do whatever it takes to survive.
The plus side is that the discounting of the last bikes, has for the time being brought many new Buell owners, who would normally not have bought one into the brand. I will keep my Buell for the long haul, same as my sportster, it will probably be the last motorcyle that I ever buy and I hope to meet up at a UKBEG meet next season.....can't wait for delivery now
