My take on Buell heated grips :
Setting 1) scald your hands
Setting 2) thermonuclear
I don't know what kind of arctic mitts they wear in East Troy, but those grips just get far too hot. Have you ever seen film of those lizards in the desert who have to raise one leg and then the other because the sand's too hot? That's the technique I have to use with threse grips - seriously! I have to arch a hand back to catch some cool air otherwise it's like resting my hands on a radiator.
Surely there must be a way to reduce the heat with a resistor or something? Sparkies?
You could but making it look neat and waterproof, on a bike, could be a problem.
I fitted the new type Oxford Hot grips (four heating levels) and they work great apart from the fact the control went twice

. The tips of my fingers still get cold with sumer gloves. This is the first time I have tried heated grips and have just used good winter gloves in the past with no probs. They are just a bit bulky is all.
The Uly hand guards keep the air and water off the hands and are much better than heated grips IMO. Feck the handling though which is why I have taken them off.
I do not think there is a 100% answer to this because it depends on the conditions you ride in and the feel you like from the controls. I like to use my summer gloves all the time but this is not practical as I ride all year. At the moment I am looking at trying summer gloves, heated grips and some sort of waterproof over-glove for the wet and/or cold.
Something like this but made of Goretex, with longer fingers and a longer cuff.

If I was going to spend £100 I would buy EXO-2 Heated gloves.
