oppps might have problem with the no thrashing thing ... :evilh:

Head off this Friday so getting a belt might be an issue. Anyway be a tad fecked off if the belt went with only 2000 mile on the clock.
Got me EU bike cover and travel insurance etc.

I have heard others talk about the fan. Mine appears to come on randomly but never noticed it from cold. It does stay on for quite a while after I stop the engine. At a stand still the fan does come on but only for a short minute.

The idea of being easy on the engine, for a while, is it will give you a sweeter engine in the long run. If your just going to hold even revs on a long run it should be fine.

As far as the belt goes. Mine went just as I went through security at the Chunnel on the way to Germany and fecked my hols. If I had had a belt it would have been no problem. Take one with you. You will need one sooner or later anyway. Also get the latest version as well. Yes I know its £190 odd but its a must IMO.

Your bike still has the old ECM map setup. The new one is not a good idea IMO and cant be changed back once its done. As you get more miles on the engine it will run cooler and the fan will come on less. My Uly has 14k on it and the whole bike runs much like any other bike now.

An issue of Buells is of date made and reg date. This can confuse the issue some as many have been in show rooms for as long as two years.

OK
Now i'm crapping myself.
Gotta try Provincewide Harley and see if they got a belt in stock.
£190 seems a bit steep for soething that might go after a few thousand miles.
Love the idea of belt drive but Holy crap will not be able to hold out to that sort of price for long.
Is it a case of buy a new belt with new Tyres or will tyres last longer.
:Dummy:

Yeah now I feel good. My first rant about my new bike. My life is back in balance.

Holding even revs on a tight engine is the worst thing you can do, short bursts of on and off is best, normal riding really.

I carried some oil around Scotland for a thousand miles and never needed a drop

I also fitted a new belt before I went and a stone still found it's way in there and almost shagged the new belt

We did France once, Mrs tells me the views were stunning, I never saw them as I was enjoying the great roads and little traffic up and down mountains etc :yup:

Just enjoy your trip :yup:

Nate.

Cheers Nate,

Always carry the oil and having never had a belt drive never considered the downside of stones.
But seriously £190 the day before I go.
Knowing my luck Provincewide won't even have one.

Second year in a row to France and the MotoGP at Mugello the year before.

If you take a belt, make sure:

1. You have the tools to change it
2. You know how to change it

Not needed Pash because it has never happend to anyone on this side of the planet. Nor did it cost them £500 plus in pre booked hotel and train costs because it was just a dream.

What ever it ant my prob.

I seem to remember someone carried a spare belt, then when it broke, they didn't have the tools... :o

I would carry a spare belt above taking oil myself, but not a new belt. Fit the new one and take the old one, it will fold up better.

Could be worse though.
I'm watching Deadliest Catch -- Now that is a seriously messed up career choice.

Relax dude, your belt will not break and your bike will not use a significant amount of oil...

Just roll on that throttle and have yourself a good time 8-)

PS. Get a tubeless tyre repair kit...

Got all the other stuff.

Just never considered the belt .....So used to chain drive.
But hey ho it's all a learning curve.
At least we have a decent bunch hear to advise.

By the way this site was recommended by a mechanic at Provincewide Harley (NI)
