Is a Montesa not a bit of a competition bike?

My 'perfect Buell' would have a set of your yokes on it :yup:

I think the 'BIC razor' of a bike thing will only really apply after another few years when spares become a problem, and the resilience of those who are still passionate about owning and running an XB is seriously put to the test. If you are that sensitive to Maz's comments should you be riding one? He is probably right, but don't worry about it. I don't! I listen to everything he say's and enjoy learning about the issues raised. It still has to be said that my XB has never been better than when it's just left a service at the Eporium. ;)

I test rode Buells and had been reading about them (tubers and fuellers) for years before I could afford one. I test rode 6 Xb's before buying so Knew what I was getting into. So should you, and take suitable precautions for prolonged enjoyment of one of the worlds finest motorcycles. ;)

so what would be the perfect buell then?

,,I have mine already Albert, but perfection is different things to different folk, thankfully 8-)
,,and "perfect Buell" would be somewhat of a misnomer, as they're never really completed/finished

I would go along with that although I think the "Bic Razor" was about money IE the XBs are made to a price and that has effected the bike enough to make it a throw away item. It is a true fact as EVERYTHING is made to a price but a XB is no more a throw away bike than any other today. In fact people are still buying old Honda CX bikes and they have the same engine/gearbox problems the XBs do if they feck up.

The XBs and 1125s will thrive, like the the Tubers, as classic bikes in the future for good reason. Worry ye not for belts, bearings, etc for there will always be a way around these, if needed, because its always been the way of it :yup:.

Things I like about an XB?

The frame, the belt drive, the V-Twin engine, the weight distribution & the handling.

Sure there is evidence of cost cutting going on, most of which can be mitigated by an enthusiast owners time, diligence & wallet. ;)

I like the way they look & go.
When it breaks, I'll fix it.

If the engine / tranny goes Kerbluey! , I'll think what I am going to replace it with. ;)

( Thinks: A Vinny lump might fit? )

Nige. 8-)

Most of the time, anyway! :old:

Oh.... How about a Suzuki TL1000 lump?
I reckon that would be 'interesting.' :yup:
