Just changed the belt on my XB - went on quite easily. I have a free spirits tensioner though, does that help with the tightness?
I had been wondering how it would go on - the little cut out on the swing arm is a clever idea lol. Lots of corrosion in there though - cleaned it out and ACF50'd.

Bike originally had a D belt on, but the new one is an F - got it from the states for £115 and back in the wife's suitcase.

Hi Sportster_man,

It is normal and good practice to fit the belt in a direction that makes the writing on the belt readable as you stand looking at it from the drive side of the machine. This is how the factory fitted them.

The belt should always be fitted the same way as it beds in in that direction, to change it round can cause early failure. This is a rule of thumb for chain drives too.

Hope this one lasts a little longer for you this time ;) .

Regards, Jon

Jon, thanks for that ! Didn't think it really mattered, suppose it's just to make things easier if you have to remove it - not having to remember which way round it was fitted.

7,552 miles and the belt on my CR has snapped      :!:

Didn't get much more from my 1125R belt either - so much for the "lifetime guarantee".

OK, so where did Buell hide the "out of warranty self destruct widget" ? The warranty expired 2 weeks ago, since then I've been getting the low fuel and engine management lights come on - usually happens when it's cold - TVHD were going to sort it out under warranty but then went bust - not had the problem again until now - but of course the warranty has expired.

Anybody know the part number for a CR belt ?

Wasn't there a thread about the cost of these belts at Jersey? Was the part number there?

7000 miles is not a lot. Can you see how it failed? Are there any stone marks on the sprocket teeth?

Buy a used belt, half the cost, potential to last just as long, plus already stretched so no issue with fitting or premature bearing failure.

Got my last one delivered for £80 from the states eBay :)

My previous belt hadn't snapped but the teeth were coming away from the backing, kept this for a spare if I get caught out, and take it with me on trips under the seat :)

That CR one has 2000 miles of use for £80 + £12 + £12 = £104

Compare that to £172 at Jersey (and Blackbear will probably be able to beat it) for a 7000 mile belt...

My first belt started to fail at 4k, the current used one has done 11k on my bike, plus whatever it had done before and is still going strong.

I'm sure others with higher mileage bikes are still on there first belt ? It's just a luck lottery.

It's just annoying - 2 different bikes, 2 different belts, but they snap at about the same mileage - there was only 150 miles difference ...

And the CR is a 2010 model, with the latest revision belt (or so I've assumed) ...
