its not a buell dealer...

its at premierbikes in didcot...

http://www.premierbikes.com

have a look if you want...
i not overly concerned at mileage as long if it has been looked after...

i know that i can get for about £4k some which have less than 10k miles on it, but not with all the luggage etc...

Anyway, i will ride up tomorrow and have a look...
thx Lars

I think that "traders" are all required to offer minimum of 6 months warranty but it'll be something to check. 8-)

Scrap that, I've just checked the advert and it comes with a 12 month warranty.

Mind you, they are a KTM dealer... :D

Lars,

You won't go wrong listening to Raiderfan. I have a 08 XB12X which is great.
I would avoid a 27,000 mile Buell from a non-franchise dealer. If I was going to buy a Buell with that mileage I'd like to buy it from the owner. Check Badweb they have some mega-mileage Buells on there.

Don't get tricked into buying an XT, they're for Homos.

TBH, I wouldn't. It could be a well-ridden scoot that possibly hasn't had that many issues or it wouldn't have got to that mileage.

Also, if it is from a dealer, I understand that they are now required to sell with a 6 month warranty.

I agree. My original one must have about that sort of mileage by now, and I'd have bought it back in an instant, and I know its history: of course it's never been dropped (not in Europe anyway!). You get a good 'un and you're sorted. Some of the Badweb riders have got massive mileages from Ulys (and other XBs).

All of what Raiderfan says about the XB12X. Mine is an 06 bought with 1700 on the clock and 10500 now. I use it all the time for everything apart from in the snow.

Also you will get used to the small steering lock on a pre 08 bike. It is not a problem if you know about it ;).

Heated grips are easy to fit and cost half the OEM ones. A little extra, about 10ml, of heavy oil in the forks will sort the dive thing. I see no good reason for the 47mm forks on the 08 plus Uly.

The engine needs about 4k to bed in and mine has got better and better to the 10k it has on it now. The fan hardly runs at all now, unless I thrash it that is.
No hot arse/leg problems anymore :D.

Front end wobble is not a problem if you set the bike up right, not to much rear pre-load, and do not lean on the bars at speed.

I use the STD screen and did get a little buffeting but after changing to an Arai lid, HJC before, it has gone. 100+ is fine now and I am 2m tall.

The lights are not great but better lamps help. I use a Philips MotoVision lamp on dip, a PIAA on main and the dip is wired to come on with the main beam.
I have H3 projector spots as well.

The rear OEM pads are crap and make the rear brake almost useless. I use SBS ones and it sorted the problem. On the front the OEM ones are best changed to something like EBC, cost half the amount and work better. Washing off the brake dust now and then also helps a lot.

I have had a new battery, rear wheel bearings and a belt. I think the belt was down to the none Buell savvy tyre people but I had no choice at the time.

I get 40mpg in town and 55mpg plus on a run but I have a Remus can, a K&N air filter and do not hang about so this will cut the mpg a little. Maybe 5 to 10%.

Ok so you want a Uly and you want to tour on it.

I would buy an 06 bike with luggage, if you can, from a private one owner, HD service with about 2 to 5k on it. Should be about £4-4.5k for a mint STD bike. Bugger all money for such a great all round bike as long as you do not want to do 130 plus on it. Best would be the last version before the can/header change. No CAT in the system.

The use of soft luggage will need a small mod to use and the 16.5L tank will only be a problem if you are in a BMW/PAN type tour group. I take a small hose just in case and costs £5. Sorted. IMO these are the only possible tour problems with a Uly. You might want to take a spare belt. If you use the bike you will need it sooner or later .

Google not working for you, Ben?

Lose the number board from something like this and it looks fab.

Check the gallery > member's bikes for some lovely shots of Ash's scoot.

hi guys,

i had a look at the 27k mile bike and it looks ok...not immaculate but ok. The bike had detailed full service history incl. wheel bearings, brakes etc...

also right side air scoop and the FS belt tensioneer are already fitted and the luggage looked like it has never been used...

there was other interest in the bike while i was there and i think it might go quickly...a decent bike.

i than went to a local HD-Buell dealer... and they have a Black 57 reg Uly with 650mls...etc...for about £5k...incl. 12 months which is seriously tempting....

what should i do????

i am confused.
Lars

Well it goes like this:

Newbie professes a liking for a fuel in the frame job that his dealer has in stock.

Old-timer says "you don't want one of them new-fangled motorbikes, you want one of the original ones. Preferably the Buell Fandango 1200 from 2001, not the model with the red doohickey but the limited run with the blue whatsit"

Newbie says "WTF? There are only 2 of them left in the world and they cost £16k on eB*y. I'm going to give up and buy a H*onda"

This will go on until all the Fuellers lunch their gearboxes (sometime next year, around August I believe) and only the tubers remain, 'cos they cost thruppence ha'penny to fix.

Excellent, another German Bueller near Reading. 8-)

I still see nothing wrong with the older, cheaper bike. The FS tensioner is something which you would need to put on the newer bike and the air scoop is useful. The luggage would also set you back £400-£500....

You need to make your own choice but I'd buy the older one and spend 10% of the price difference in a small suburb of Manchester on the banks of the River Thame. 8-)
