What's the general opinion of the Pirreli Diablos?

Recommended by :maz: on my X1, needless to say , he was right, they have transformed the handling on the bike, I only ride in the dry where possible, so have no problems....nice and sticky and comfortable.

When changing tyres who changes both at same time regardless or just change the worn tyre only?

I loved every aspect of the rear diablo I ran on my XB apart from its life span

It died after just less than 1100 miles. Great profile and excellent feedback/grip.

I'm using a pilot 2 now.

on an XB12R

standard diablos - very good all round
corsa III - bike didn't like them seemed to slide a bit at partial lean, were ok in the wet.
Metzeler Rennsports - ace in the dry, lethal in the wet
Metzeler Sportec M3 - damn near perfect wet or dry and wearing well.

I got three days through my south coast run and my rear diablo hit the canvass

Managed to track down a tyre fitted in Yeovil who did not have any Diablos so went with the cheapest which are Avon Vipers. £200 front and back fitted and the fitter reckons they are stickier than the diablos but don't last as long.

Once scrubbed in they seemed to handle better but that was probably due to me going from an old out of shape tyre to a nice round one so need a couple of runs to tell for sure.

Anyone else use Avon Vipers? i had not even heard of them....

I'd agree with that, lost traction half way round a right hander on the track, and binned it in the kitty litter. A few weeks later lost traction at 1mph turning left into a parking space on a painted floor, binned it again

I don't know if the tyres are to blame, but they're coming off ASAP :!:

I had the same problem Neil. Left the house for a local 20 mile run to the bike shop. The tyre was worn but no more than any other I've run on other bikes. It still had (well, what I thought) some usable tread.

Pulled up when I got to the bike shop and I could see the canvas/beading :o I hadn’t been hammering the bike either. Just seemed to “go off” really quick.
