Can`t resist this.....Everyone who takes a driving/riding test should be shown pictures of what metal can do to a human body, how it can decapitate, shred, slice parts of the body etc. Then they should be hit with a rubber mallet on the shins and shown a photo of what sharp metal can do to the shins.
IQ test with a minimum score required.

All bikers should go on a day training with Police motorcyclists, it is reality, it is fun and it may just save your life....I enjoyed it immensely, it is the best weapon the Police have in their armoury to combat bad riding, it is a shame there are so few places each year.

As for crossing the central hatchings/double lines; I was taught to do this as part of 'using the whole of the road' so long as the road conditions allow it and it is safe to do so. Much better view of some corners when you are over on the right hand side of the road. This isn't the same as overtaking on a blind bend btw.

Who taught you that? Are they still alive? Was it someone who disliked you?? Hatchings, yes, double whites.. NO.

Thanks for the tip.

It was the Police/ex Police btw. One of a few advanced riding courses i've attended. That particular chap is still alive and doing well (for a 60yo) and up until very recently was a Nurburgring instructor. It doesn't apply to all double whites of course, but that is where the reading the road/riding to the conditions caveat applies.

I'm not a fan of aversion therapy btw, so don't agree that we should be shown pictures of dead people/mangled bodies before getting a bike. There are no pictures of bowel cancer on the packets of red meat I buy, nor necrotic livers on a bottle of wine. More scaremongering and nannying. "Do this or this WILL (well, might) happen". Yeah, no thanks.

The mob I used to hang around with in the 80's were very responsible riders. We made it a rule never to ride whilst tripping :P

I agree with the majority of what has been posted on this thread.

I reckon that the power rangers should try down hilling, ......

That way they  could truelly scare themselves without endangering anyone but themselves... and the odd tree or rock.

Says me nursing another broken rib from this morning  s training run. :nutkick:
Just hav it.
But please dont take anyone else with ya

the best speed limiting weapon i have ever seen was when riding along the road that goes from by bakewell into dore and the back of sheffield ( sorry dont know the road - but its very nice). The was a large photo of a chap posted on the side of the road with a few flowers round it and in large childs writing was the words " my daddy died here". As a father of three who preety much has always had sports bikes, it made me slow down thats for sure.

Just a tip here. Never cross a solid white line, single or double, unless you might want to die. They are there for a very good reason.

Docca. Yes you can ride in shorts and it is your right as no law says you cant. On the other hand if you have worked in A&E I would have thought you had seen the results of this sort of thing

Yes I can verify the responsibleness of this, empirically back in t' day.
I did an emergency stop before going under a railway bridge coz i thought i was gonna bump me head.
There was no bridge much to my mates ammusement. Still i gave a giant chicken a good run for its money.

Basically no matter what you drive or ride, assume everyone around you is crap and assume every bend has a huge dollop of horse crap just round the corner! Then you'll stay safe! I hate riding in groups cos everyone wants to go faster than everyone else. Last summer I went out with a group of friends of a friend. As we set off, two guys passed me on each side with front wheels in the air like some sort of synchronised stunt act. I thought here we go. Needless to say they lost me somewhere on the way to Matlock. I was happy then cos I simply turned round and had a nice trip back home on my own! Remember, it's a jungle out there and everyone want's to kill you! Car drivers especially want to prove they are faster than you on wet roundabouts and they want you dead!
