Have you done the 'Maz mod' of taking the speedo sensor feed from the ECU? That could act as a tell tale on one aspect :?

Nope the speedo sensor is as original ......was thinking that myself this evening Adam ........do the mod then if the 5V fails speedo would stop as well .

Don't forget the golden rule Kev, ONE THING AT A TIME. :yup:

Just been out and after 57 miles you've guessed it ........it stopped again ...the only difference seems to be that now when it stops it doesn't need to be left before it'll start again and thinking about it on saturday when it stopped it restarted when i tried whilst on the phone to Maz..............If i restart and rev it fairly hard though after a minute o two it cuts out again ........don't appear to be losing 12v to ecu or 5v sensor power...........spare ecu made no difference .......couldn't get laptop to boot at the roadside .......hmmmm whats the common denominator there between windows and Buells ;)
When it cuts out fuel pump instantly cycles again ?

Not sure if this has been asked already, but if you whip the plugs out when it konks out, are they dry or wet? That would tell you if it was fuel (and ignition - EMU or ECM input) or just ignition...

If you cut the camshaft sensor signal, the engine just stalls. The fuel pump primes only if the ECM is re-powered or if a camshaft signal is received. So if the engine cuts out and the fuel pump starts running, then a power failure to the ECM could well be a reason.

The last one I saw with a similar problem decided to replace the harness after we tried for hours to fix it ...

Yeah, thats kinda what I was hinting at Sporty bloke!!! lOl ;)

Scuse my ignorance, on a FI bike, if the fuel pump stopd running, does the engine cut off straight away or cough and splutter?
Tanks can run for a while with a broken fuel pump before they die!!

I bet you are getting thredders Kev, stick with it...you'll be laughing once you've found the fault.

Don't know if you have access to/have one of those timing devices that work by picking up the pulse through HT leads, if you do, you may be able to ride with one on your bike in yer tank bag to see if the spark stops?

Fuse box looks ok and everytime i've checked for power ....it all checks out OK.....I even put a new ignition fuse in just incase it was faulty and working like a bimetal switch. When it cut out today i had my multimeter in the ecm power connectr and didn't detect any sign of loss of the 12 v .....or the 5v sensor output.
Checked the TPS feedback at the ecm and did pick up a strange signal on one occasion but think that was more me not getting onto the pin correctly rather than a bad pot ........checked pot with ecmspy again when i got home and seems to give a linear signal.
CPS signal while running was only showing just over 2volts on the multimeter but assume that it's probably due to it being an on off signal whilst running so never gets chance to show 5v.
What should fuel pump output from ecm be?.............when i power on it is 12v but while engine was running looked to only be about 2 volts as well? does it self regulate depending on demand ?
