It looks better out of focus right now. I'll take another after I've bead blasted the cases and polished it. ;)

What's the best jointing compound for crankcase halves these days?

flat 'em with fine paste on a sheet of glass Mick, an' use Wellseal mate ;)

Cheers Ian, I gave them the full monty last build and barely run it afterwards, so the cases should only require cosmetics. I cleaned out the sludge trap and fitted an Allen head trap screw at the same time, so I'll just put the crank up in the lathe and repolish the flywheel this time.

I used to deal with Burton Bike Bits a lot. The woman in their parts dept knows everything there is to know about Triumph parts. I tried to order some close ration pinions for a Tri gear box using part numbers and she told me straight, from memory, away that one part number was incorrect in the parts book I was using :o 8-)

I thought rationing stopped in 1954 (except petrol due to the Suez Crisis - up to 1957)

I was issued with a ration book for the Bug in 1974..... don't believe we actually had to use them though. :?

Rationing? I'm sure I have a picture of a bike which laughs in the face of rationing, it does 120+ per gallon, carries 2 in great comfort, et cetera..... I'll see if I can find a pic' of it. Can anyone else help?

That'd be a challenge...... yes, mine carries 2, in Greece in the late '70's, (years, not temperature), I saw one of those of which I have a picture, with a male pilot, small dog between his legs with front paws on the speedo' area, small child behind pilot, then a woman sidesaddle holding a baby behind them...... I bet that knocked the consumption down to around 125 miles per gallon.....
