Pash..the centres are Buell.

Now a bit of the engine....god help me...I swear... when I got home from picking it up ( buggerbay purchase ) , I stuck a knife into the shite on the front head and it was about 1/4 inch thick. Another wee detail was that the left head mount bolt was burst. The bike has obviously been dropped or low speed collision by previous keeper . He told me at point of sale that there had been a bit of `custom work` to the front, but in the pissing rain at 6 pm winter outside in the street , I did not catch that. Mind you...it rode home ok.....then after dismantling, I spent 20 minutes with a masher to get the broken bolt out of the front engine alloy hanger as it had been `glued in` with aircraft quality adhesive. I got a bit knackered after 20 minutes of repeated blows. But hanger now free of burst bolts and polished up a bit.

Anyways.....new Thunderstorm front head now in stock ( via you know wherebay ) , ready to replace the broken one. Anyone interested in a used TSH with burst thread , as if. ? Also thinking about trying to rebuild thread as I know a dude, who knows a dude, who is good at ally welding and a helicoil.

Now thinking engine total black finish( heads down ) with highlight polished fins on the heads ? ( after taping with pinstripe masking tape ) .

Good stuff dude. Keep us going with this rebuild. I know it's a pain sometimes, but I wish it was me doing a complete rebuild/custom like this.

Talk to :maz: re the black engine thing B4 you go ahead with it.

Had my parts done at redditch powdercoat who guarantee their finish for ten years plus. They did a quality job very much worth the money and I'm very pleased with the result. They sort masking, blasting etc with various finishing grits etc etc.

That engine's some mess, why would anyone let their bike get into that state. The crap at the front looks like mud, the bike seems like it may have been kept outside uncovered.

Are the forks the same length as Buell items? the front rake angle is very steep on the Buell, I wouldn't recommend getting it any steeper thats all.
You could use spacers on the discs, I've never really liked doing that, better to use the whole Ducati front end, yokes and all I would think.

Think you may need negative spacers... IIRC, the better (longer) forks to use were the ST2s and the fork spacing (and disc spacing) was bigger on the Ducati.

A little more progress after summer - Rear seat unit now welded up with bosses and a new alloy oil tank fabricated using original rubber mounts. A new battery tray now welded in to replace the original that had dissolved in rust. Next step to dress off all welds and then dry build. The rear sub frame has a good selection of additional mounting options for relays, fuse holders, module etc that were covered up by the original seat unit. Alloy tank to be polished . Then frames into powdercoater.
