Bought 2 new spark plugs for my Buell from HD yesterday. Panic ye not!

......but did they give you the correct ones ?

Well.........having bought the parts book now, I did give them the part number (not that we you can always rely on Buell printed matter ), but the staff in Cheltenham are pretty good.

Was going to say; This is just an observation so correct me if I'm wrong. If HDs alleged statement that they were not into promoting sports bikes when closing the Buell factory, can be regarded as political expedience. I like many will be confused by stories that they purchased the manufacturing rights to the water cooled Helicon motor around the same time.

If true that would indicate that they had enough belief in Erik Buell to want a stake in some future.......or were they just hedging their bets? What are the current 1125 relationships with Harley?

So after reading 1203 reply - what I don't get is if there is still a demand for parts for a 10 year old bike all be it a small one and then on the other hand the 1125 being the last buell creation why is there still a 4 - 6 week waiting time for parts, yet a part for a 10 year old bike is on the shelf though can not be shipped ?

Well I've sat here and read this whole thread(on my birthday I might add) and found it well and truly interesting, when I used to run Ducatis the unwritten rule from Bologna was when a model hadn't been produced for ten years the factory no longer supported it for spares after the ten years were up, now I know for a fact that certain members of the main two Ducati clubs, the DSC and DOC, bought a lot of stock for the 851/888 range (which I had at the time) direct from the factory and sold them on to members who needed them, including myself. Now they done this off their own backs with no "club support" probably for the reasons mentioned early in this thread, but I would hope a dealer like BB (who a lot of their staff ride Buells I might add) would endeavor to keep as many parts in stock as possible

So can I get something very clear now from the people who know ie, Steve, Allan, Maz etc, "what is the official line on spare parts and support for Buells from H-D?",if there is one, my bike is now nearly 11 years old and I don't have to many concerns on getting parts for it, I have numbers for bearings etc and general service items which can be obtained from outside sources and good dealers like BB, but it is a concern that if I break a "sidestand" or need a new isolater will I be able to obtain them, when H-D themselves still support parts for WLAs which are no longer made and a lot older than 11 years, but in their defence it does say "H-D" on the tank and not Buell.

It was my birthday yesterday too.

and I would say that not to do whatever you can for your customers, however removed from HD could be seen as a bit ungracious and ungrateful given the positive input of Buell knowhow to the parent company over the years?

........and doesn't exactly endear yourself to potential customers.

I was just about to ask the question that 1203 has answered. We have to assume he is the "real deal" so that has to be good news for all Buell owners, surely???

HD is like any other US company: anything that doesn't benefit the share-holders isn't worth keeping, regardless of (ex-)customer-interest or pride of products.

Mind you, that's maybe why US companies produce in countries like India and China, while most of our UK companies are owned by those countries

I have built up a modest collection of parts to keep my M2 going (only 63k done, surely at least another 63 in it ). I have to admit though that part-supply seems to have improved from pretty miserabe back in 2001 to pretty good in more recent years (I get most stuff from Riders of Bristol or on-line). Some prices have gone up considerably but that's understandable to some extent.

I remember Yamaha selling their stock of classic model parts cheaply to specialist-dealers and enthousiasts; BMW did something similar with their pre 1970 parts back some years ago: It's not an uncommon thing to do and would be nice to see the same happening with Buell bits.

Update.......so when the tail lamp bracket didn't turn up either, after the suggested 3-4 weeks delivery from the USA, I once again chased the order.......

.......part is now no longer available, even though, once again the order was processed and accepted at the time ie. part in stock and available for dispatch.

It would appear that the USA warehouse is going through the same process as the EDC and binning Buell parts.......so much for assurances

This part is now listed as 'vintage' and as such means that only stock still held at dealers will be available

Funny, isn't it (NOT) that you can still buy parts for a 40+ year old H-D from your dealer without any problems at all

Perhaps they only consider that it's only neccessary for models that were still in production when they pulled the plug ?

we don't buy the lifestyle tat , where most of the motherships income is from
so thanks alot Buellers now jog on eh..!!
