Post subject: | Battery problems found |
Riders in Bristol have found the cause of my odd battery problems on my 1125r. The battery simply wouldn't retain a charge and despite a trickle charge all night wouldn't start up and would drain itself trying with much clicking, wheezing and coughing. Wasn't all the time and once I got it going I was okay. But recently I pulled over to a lay-by to warm up my hands at the end of the cold spell we had called winter ![]() It hasn't been so much of a problem now the temperature is warmer but it was driving me loopy a bit. Seems I have a recall replacement causing the stator to overheat at low revs. As much of my riding is low revs that would make sense but I'm afraid a little ignorant of how it all works. Anything more than a spanner and I'm lost. I'm simply not mechanically minded. I guess this part is probably old hat news to many of you but I'm happy the cause has been found. So they've ordered up a new one along with a replacement exhaust as I wasn't happy at the build up of rust on the new existing one after such a short time using it after all much of the winter it was under cover. Happy about both of these. Now I just need to work out why the fuel light comes on when it shouldn't and how to squeeze more mpg out of a bike built by a nation which does not understand fuel efficiency on vehicles. ![]() |

The charging problems have been known for over a year so the dealer should have recalled the bike for it .....the low fuel light problem is also a known problem and needs a new set of clocks to cure ...again something the dealer should know all about ![]() ![]() |

The MPG line was an attempt at irony. Guess I need to brush up on that one ![]() ![]() The bike was not bought from a Harley Dealer so the dealer wouldn't have been in a position to know about the dashboard issues. I didn't know either so will let Riders know and they can add to the other two tasks they are going to do for me. I would use another dealer but Riders is close and as a warranty issue I thought it best to get the local firm to sort for me so I didn't need to travel so far in case I had to leave my bike overnight. I know they haven't the best press on this board but so far I haven't been able to fault their support helping me locate the issue so will give them the benefit of the doubt on the first workshop visit. |

I'm confused now ......aren't or weren't Riders a Harley dealer ? if so they should already know about the issues ........first thing they should have done is check the Vin number which would have instantly told them of the outstanding charging issue ..........and although I don't think the low fuel light issue is a recall as such they should have at least known about it unless they've had their heads stuck up their chrome plated arses ![]() |

They are primarily a BMW dealer. They would not have known of the issues. As I mentioned, it wasn't a HD dealer. Riders is a HD dealer and they do know of the recall issue regarding the battery. The cockpit display issue I have not mentioned to them yet but when I do I expect they will add to the list, as I said. Afterall its a warranty issue. ![]() |

So far I would agree. The creepy big men with leather fetish and beards wandering around the HD bikes isn't really my scene but there are some beautiful Ducati's there to drool over. Oh Multistrada, one say you will be mine..... |

Bike went in. Parts were there. Commented, "can you just cast your eyes over this oily plug on the right of the engine?" Bike is still there. The jobs it went in for was completed nicely. New exhaust and new replacment stator parts, however a major oil leak was found with the heat having warped a part and causing oil to be ejected now and then. New parts were ordered but unsure when they will arrive so unsure when I will have my bike back. Waaagghhh!!! All this lovely bike friendly weather too! |

Am being tempted by other bikes now. Hopefully the feeling will past. |
