You asked for preferred chain lube, I prefer to use a scottoiler, what's to swear about?

I use this stuff after washing. I say this only so you can read the instructions about riding with a dry chain and try it for yourself.

Ungrateful wretch.

Scottoiler ;)

Apart from that, Morris synth spray on stuff seems to stay on the chain rather than the wheel 8-)

The Motul stuff is very good in my book - spray it on the night before to let it thoroughly dry whatevever you use.
 Hate chains these days having got used to a belt - I know that they are bulky but it really is a no brainer for me in road use!

If you are going to use a chain drive bike a lot then a Scottoiler cannot be beat. If not I find, or used to, that a 30mm brush and a pot of engine oil is as good as anything else.

Just MO though ;)

PS - The "behind the plate tank" is the way to go as well.

Scottoilers are great...until they fail. If you are not careful you won't notice that they aren't working anymore until you have a very dry and unhappy chain. Don't ask me how I know. Scottoiler's customer service is brilliant but you don't find that out until it breaks.

I use either Castrol Chain Wax or the Wurth Dry Chain Lube. The Wurth stuff is brillaint but has two faults: one, you need to shake the can for three minutes everytime time your use it. Two, it costs a feckin fortune.

I'm with iwoo on this one - Wurth dry lube is the way to go, but its not cheap.

Nate - as I don't own a chain drive bike any more, PM me your address and I'll post you my can of Wurth so you can "try before you buy". (If nothing else, its a small can and handy to take with you if you're off for a touring holiday etc.)

Wurth dry chain lube IMO

Wurth on my old bike, it was the best I could find after many years of different types. Chain's got to be squeaky clean first though, also helps if it's a little warm so if you can work in direct sun that's good.

Thanks fellers, I am a fan of the scott oiler and have used them many times.
I don't consider oiling a chain a pain, gives you chance to look around the bike etc. Just like the time I noticed a cracked swinger on a friends 1200 daytona just a week before we set of for Scotland!!
