Post subject:  1125 Brake Judder

Bugger, I think my front disc has warped.

After 18k miles, of which the last 12k were on non o/e pads, I'm pretty certain it'll be considered wear and tear rather than a warrenty issue so which replacement disc do people recommend? Do I NEED to change the mounting kit when I change the disc? On a conventional brake set up, if the brake bolts looked ok, I'd just apply some fresh thread lock and reuse them, what are the implications of doing the same on the Buell?

Looks like an EBR 6mm disc will work out the cheapest option (6mm disc + fitting kit + postage comes in at £133), but I've never bought anything from the states before, what happens about import duty?

Yep, because when you include the disc and shipping it still only totals $213 = £133ish

Worst case scenario ? It will be delivered by ParcelFarce !

Usually they will "contact you" and ask you to pay 20% import duty, 20% VAT on top of that and then their "fees collection charge" of about £10-£15 before they will deliver it to you. I say "contact you" because last time I had the pleasure of their delivery service I had to call them after the vendor said that it had been despatched weeks earlier - ParcelFarce claimed they had been trying to contact me on my mobile for 2 weeks, but I had no missed calls and the number they had was correct - as for the delivery itself, they botched that too and that took a further 2 weeks ...

But you may be lucky, it may come by another carrier ...

IIRC somebody sold a brand new one on here with the disc fitting kit, said it cost about £160 all in from EBR and taxes etc.

Have you tried cleaning the disc ? It is popular opinion that brake dust builds up on the disc causing it to feel as if it's warped - a thorough clean with brake cleaner and wire wool may help.

My 2008 R got an advisory for the same thing when it was MOt'd, I've cleaned it but have yet to test it to see if things have improved :oooops: as I've been riding my CR as much as possible before the warranty runs out ...

Why don't you clean yours with some scotchbrite and brake cleaner.

What pads are you using?

Current pads are at the end of their life Braking pads.

If I rotate the wheel gently by hand, there is one sticky point in a rotation and there is no visible un-uniform contamination on the disc. There is a lip starting to form on both the inner and outer edges of the disc (either side of the pads) where the pads have started to wear the disc. I'll always clean the disc with a scotchbrite when changing pad brands. I'll try a scotchbrite tonight, but I'm unconvinced it will make a difference. I do have some new pads I could fit, but if the disc is warped, I'd rather fit them with a new disc.

This sounds to me as if you are using a very agressive/abrasive type of pads.
