Hi All Hurtling towards a 20k service for the XB12s which I will be doing myself. Has anyone any tips on changing the fork oil. I have the workshop manual and it all looks fairly straightforward. I have also made a spring compressor so thats covered. Cheers Bob |

I assume you are using a syringe to set the level. Daywalker sent me some interesting links for tested oil viscosity for a wide range of manufacturers. May save you some effort getting Type E. |

I sent them in for an overhaul. Was not cheap (about 280 €), but guessing from the replaced parts I got back with the "new" forks, it was pretty necessary to swap more than just the oil. They also adjusted damping to my weight and my preference for bumpy roads. |

......and unless you are sub 11 stone, I wouldn't use type E........ |

I dropped my YZF750 forks round my local bike dealer for new seals and new oil. Cost me £80 inclusive. |

Thanks for the input. Yep got the syringe at the ready Nick..oh matron. I'm a bit over 11 stone so I'll stick with the type E thanks Maz. edit just read this properly so not type E No I didn't... I'd love to drop them off at some relaible garage but TBH there aren't many I would trust and I'm quite looking forward to doing it myself. Cheers Bob |

.......because the springs MUST be removed from the legs to set the oil height |

Having festered a while over Will.I.Am's blatantly obvious blunder above, I have to say that I'm more than a little frustrated by these fork oil threads Why is it that peeps consider a fork oil change to be a simple, mundane operation ?.......it's not, it's an exact science to get right and the workshop manual barely scratches the surface |

I'll let you know how I get on although the speed I get things done that may not be for a while. I will probably wait until the current brilliant weather is over. |

Just because they're not leaking doesn't mean they're right |

Maz wrote: Just because they're not leaking doesn't mean they're right I know, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt One thing's for sure, they're definitely way better than they were prior to being done. Took me ages to work out what was causing the abnormal vibration |
