When mine is clean I spray "back to black" on it and let it air dry. Makes it much easier to clean afterwards.

On Muffins Black cases I use silicon spray after washing and drying them ;) brings them up a treat 8-)

Well mine are un painted rough alloy, the only thing that I find will remove stains etc is petrol, and in turn that dries up streaky and then I'm back to square one again, I like to use solvol autosol but its a job to get it all out when finnished. what a bugger :headbang: (I will try WD40 thanks BBB)

They would've left the factory painted (silver), Geoff.... textured not smooth, but painted nonetheless.
If you can't see any areas where it's flaking, I'd suggest it's still painted all over, as I can't imagine anyone going to the trouble of stripping all the paint off and just leaving it raw... easy enough to mirror-polish though.

Try spraying 'muck off' on it then scrub with warm water and brush then wipe over when dry with a cloth and ACF50 or GT85. ;)
