I don't know why I've been so unlucky on the roads for the 6 1/2 years I've owned the XB12X, accident number 4 and insurance claim number 3 just started.

Having finally sorted out my wet weather running woes over the weekend and a 50 mile fun ride in the pissing wet, I lose it in the dry.

Getting ready to turn right, move to the right to get in the safe area in middle of carriageway, get caught in the widening gap (shit roads in Ossett still) between 2 bands of tarmac. Huge tank slapper and spat off at about 20 mph.

Uly has taken quite a bang to left side of frame. Ripped off the frame puck and a nice dent in frame. Left Mirror, Hand guard, winker, both left side footrests and gear linkage kaput.

Insurers have been in touch and coming to collect on Thurs. Taking to sudden-impactuk in Dagenham who reckon they've got the job sorted to easily repair the frame having seen photo's. Don't know if anyone has experienced repairs with this crew but they reckon they can sort XB frames and have done worse than mine.

Police have viewed CCTV footage (watch out on You've been framed at some point in the future) and corroborated my story. Trying to get hold of this now myself. Council sending me a claim form regards the road condition causing the accident.

Me, I'm OK, just banged left knee and right shoulder. Wearing dragginjeans with knee pads underneath and armoured jacket. Thank god for those. Helmet not taken a scratch (strange). Ambulance was about 1 minute behind me at the time and came round the corner to see me picking up the bike out of the carriageway.

I have heard of Sudden Impact at Dagenham. I may be wrong but I believe Zoidberg had them repair or replace his frame, when his bike fell off the stand? I know he's not around much these days, but I think he pops in from time to time. Might be worth a PM.

Sudden impact are a fairly good firm most insurance companies send bikes there for repairs. 2 years ago I went with a mate to pick up his gixxer which had just had a frame repaired. I remember seeing a Buell frame on one of the shelfs.

There is a xb12 frame on eBay don't know if it's compatible with a Uly.

Why are you making an insurance claim if the council are sending you a claim form? will you be claiming from both? :? :? at the accident rate you are enduring perhaps some form of recurrent training would be appropriate?

Training - Gymnastics and learning how to fall properly being the first one.

I called the council to let them know about the accident and the current status of the road surface that led to this.
I didn't ask for a form but they said they were sending one anyway. I'd already been in touch with Insurance earlier. Once the form arrives I will discuss with my Insurers about how they think we should proceed.

Whatever they say, they will bung up your premium at next renewal, regardless of 'protected no claims etc, and a different company will also ask if you've had any 'no blame' accidents or claims. Guess why? ;)

Considering the time you spend 'tarmac surfing' have you considered some IAM stuff? Sure, there's a lot of beardy old farts in that organisation, but some of them (usually ex bike Plod) will make you think about what you're doing. After a lifetime of thrashing bikes, a lot of what I learned on the course was already being done instinctively, having learned it the hard and painful way :roll: , but having it pointed out was a way in which I could analyse it effectively. I also learned a fair bit of new stuff too. The test was also fun (ex Plod) as were the training rides, which if done with ex Plod Observers, was at a reasonable pace.

On the way to my test, I got pulled for speeding. When I told the Copper where I was going, he raised his eyebrows and told me to get on my way, 'carefully' :rotfl: I got the same reaction off my Examiner when I told him, after he said I'd passed the test :rotfl:

I wrote my brand new multistrada off last year and did the IAM observed rides and test, it worked for me and found it interesting having my riding looked at, like Adam, I knew and used nearly everything already but did learn some great stuff.

Not saying you need any of this and I'm glad your ok and sure it was the road conditions but worth a thought.

That road really is in a shit state. Sad thing is I've seen a lot worse than that on my travels. Nice to see our road and fuel tax getting put to good use :roll: We used to take the piss out of French roads for being crap when touring in the 90's. I think UK roads are the worst maintained ones in Europe now.

Don't want to bore people with my riding history but I have been an IAM Observer for over 10 years and have undertaken many free and paid for courses to keep my skills up. I have also seen much worse incidents experienced by IAM members with a longer riding history than myself.

Probably a case of "Do as I say, not as I do".

The thing that irks me most is that I had already negotiated much worse roads that day without issue.
