Quick question: Have to order a drive belt for a 2006 XB12X. I'd arranged a weekend away to France (leaving Friday 25th May) and meant to order a new belt before leaving. Due to a family bereavement I've overlooked a few things in the last 2 weeks, including this  .Before I try ringing around every Harley dealer in the UK, does anyone know where I can mail order one from that is likely have stock? I got one from here :- http://www.BuellParts.net/, but there's nowhere in country I can get one from, so my options are probably more limited than yours

Thanks for all your replies. I ordered one from Black Bear who do indeed have it in stock. (read your pm too late, Delw but thanks for the offer as my pm message) My plan is to swap over the belts so the bike has a new one fitted for the trip and then carefully pack the old one just in case. If it's anything like the same job on the P3 Blast, it shouldn't take too long. The only thing I don't like about drive belts is that they give you no warning  .Jon |

The only thing I don't like about drive belts is that they give you no warning .Jon Remember not to fold the spare belt too tightly ..try to keep the minimum radius inside it when it's folded or rolled up at approx the same size as the front pully  a piece of tube the width of the belt is often supplied inside new industrial belts to prevent it getting folded too tight. And also don't twist it ............Good idea fitting the new one though as the old one will be more flexible to put into your luggage.

Thanks for the tip, Kevmean. So, is it OK to coil the (old) belt into 3? There would be no reverse curves and the radius would be larger than the smaller pulley. The only issue could be the initial twisting to get the belt into a triple loop. Suggestions? Cheers, Jon |

Thanks for the link. All I need to do now is find a way of storing the belt in a pannier or other part of the bike whilst still keeping to the minimum bend diameters. That is, of course, if the new belt turns up in time for me to fit it Jon |

Belt arrived and was fitted yesterday evening  .I decided to follow the book to the letter, with two exceptions*. Job took a whole two hours, with interruptions from neighbours and the odd 'phone call. I'll know what to do if I get caught with a snapped belt by the roadside now - but I'll still be swearing! Jon * Couldn't undo one of the rear hugger fixings but managed to slip the belt in and out by bending the hugger. Also, had to partially mount the FS belt tensioner then wiggle the new belt on. I found it too tight to fix the tensioner on afterwards. |
