Does one really need to change the transmission oil every 2500 miles? It doesn't live life in the fast lane like engine oil...

When was the last time you changed your transmission oil on your car?

Torco V-series primary chaincase lubricant.

However, looking at what I used to use in two strokes back in the day (oil for primary, clutch and gearbox), it was '4 stroke oil', a 10w-40 engine oil or if you wanted less friction you used ATF.

So what grade is Formula+?

What's wrong with just using Formula + ?

.....although I must admit I'm more than a little pissed off that the latest new packaging has seen a price hike

ie. it's gone from £9.40 to £10.58 :headbang:

Chief, I reckon that might be due to the price of oil going up, as reflected in the fuel prices. It would also effect oils to .. ?

What alternatives are there to Formula+ apart from Motor Factory Trans/Primary Lubricant for Sportster and Bel Ray Sport (and the Screaming Eagle 20/50 Synthetic)? If you look on the bottle, HD are sly enough to not give you the viscosity, nor do the others above. Looking on other forums, they suggest a 75w-90 or 80w-90 or even RED LINE HEAVY ShockProof™ Gear Oil 75w-140. blooody good question nick ,is not the key to an alternative nick in the friction plate matereial and what oils can be used with the plates HD use .maybe getting the formula plus tested would be an idea ,outfit up the road do this ,no idea how much it costs though ,food for thought nick

nothing wrong for most users doing 4000 and under a year ,starting to get pricey at the new price when i change trans 3 times a year

When was the last time you changed your transmission oil on your car? noticed grumblys crutch is much happier when the oil is changed under 5000 miles ,so two changes from aprill to november between 5 to 70000 miles average ,i run all year round so engine and trans changed in november and fucked off in april regardless of milage just the way i do it nick

Used to run an iron head sportster,and put sae 40 in the tranny . In the 10 years that i had it never had probs with the gearbox , just replaced the clutch plates once .
