For those of us mad enough to consider the odd green lane (maybe with rocks ![]() I've done a bit of research on the Buell forums and it looks like there are no crash bars available but many owners report reasonable crash protection with handguards and bungs. The handguards are simple to source (Barkbusters or similar) but what of the relatively limited options for the engine casings? My question: Which are the best for protection; The LSL crash pads which fix to the engine mounting on one side and the engine casing on the other (using the small diameter casing fixing bolts ![]() OR The R&G Crash bungs which use a frame(mounting?)-fixed bar running across the front? these appear to be located further up towards the pucks. Any other options out there that I have missed? Obviously, for off-roading the bung option has limitations but it has to be better than nothing. I don't fancy a hard landing on those pucks! Any comments appreciated. Thanks. Jon |

They seem to be located a little lower down than the LSL ones and a lot lower than the R&G bungs. Has anyone tested them out...as in unfortunately tested them out? MadRat wrote: Am I reading this correctly? Off-roading a Buell... ![]() Best of luck there Matey...... ![]() You can off-road on anything. It's 25% bike, 75% rider. Unfortunately the 75% in my case is pretty crap ![]() I've already done a bit on the XB12X, in the company of an XTZ and GSA. The lighter weight and balance of the Uly made up for the shortcomings of the 17" front. All three bikes would have been toast in wet mud, though. Jon |

I can;t trade my two tiddlers in for one of those, though. The VanVan is taking me to Portugal in September and there is nothing like the smell of two-stroke oil. The RS has been virtually outlawed and will disappear from Aprilia's line-up very soon, heralding the end of the golden age of lightweight fun bikes (sigh) ![]() Jon PS I consider the Uly a 'lightweight fun bike' too - compared to what else is currently being offered! |
