I seem to get 100 to 120 miles to the point where the light comes on. last calculation worked out to be 55 to the gallon (taking it easy). buell say the tank holds 14lts (3 imperial gallons). That would mean i should be able to get 165 miles to the tank (dry). has any one actually run their bike dry? if so how many miles did it do? how much fuel did it actually take? I am trying to work out how many miles i can go to between fill ups. I was out in wales at the week end and was getting paranoid about running out of fuel (Welsh petrol station never being open on a sunday). If it where a normal bike I would just drain the tank but i do not want to turn my XB upside down!!!!!!! ![]() |

I usually get about 118 miles before the reserve light comes on although I got 128 on sunday without the light coming on. I think you would be okay for another 25 to 30 miles once the light is on but I tend to look for fuel after 100 miles to be on the safe side. Oh and you get more miles to the gallon with super unleaded. |

My XB12STT goes for 24 miles after the light comes on. Norrie is correct about Super Unleaded giving better mileage. On normal I get 135 miles before light comes on ~ 160 mile range On super unleaded I get 150 miles before light comes on ~ 175 mile range = 9.36% increase in range Normal unleaded is 101p, Super is 109p, meaning Super is 8% more expensive. So, it is actually more economical to use Super, plus you have to fill up less often. |

Many things have to be taken into account like rider style, town/ motorway riding, air temp, bike mods, bike loading, etc. The XB9X tank is very small at 14.4lt inc the 2.8lt reserve. The Uly is not great at 16.7lt inc the 3.1lt reserve. But neither are touring class bikes. I would go with Norrie on the numbers as about right. Once my light comes on I start to think "gas-up" as soon as possible. |

I use to get around 130 to the light and once I got 27miles on reserve but she was ridden real carefull and she was spluttering as we pulled in the station so that equals 157. The super stuff helps I found and an open can. I use to get over 50mpg too. Think your tank has the air box hole through it, mine didna so I would of been a liter up etc. Nate. |

Tank size increased with the 06 model... Uly and Ss have biggest tanks... Be sure to compare apples with apples... |

Of course i forgot that my 54 plate bike has an bloody great hole through the tank for the air intake. I would normally look for fuel at 100 miles but i was out in wales on a sunday and fuel stops where few and far between. so I was wondering how far i could go before pushing it!!!!! I do tend to go for super unleaded but not always easy to find. Cheers guys. I think I may try and find a 1/2 gallon fuel can to strap on the back. |

I've had over 160 from my 2003 '9. It was good for mpg by cruising at around 80mph on the mway and short shifting in city traffic. A good caning could get the fuel light on at 100, tho'. The reserve can get to 36 miles if you're REAL gentle. I'd count on 30 usually. That's a 14 litre tank - don't know about the diff between mine and yours with the airbox etc.? I reckon it's pretty good mpg for a "sports" (yeah-right) twin. Cheers, Newts |

I get 120miles to the light, almost every time. The majority of my riding is town, traffic, stop, start, weave etc. I use the shell vpower stuff. Didn't make any difference to the mileage but I think it idles a bit smoother. I sort of buy into the cleaning agent nonsense too. Meh |
