I hear that ticking noise sometimes in my firebolt 12 special when engine is very hot and when I open the throtle hard on the low revse and higher gears. Really don't know what that ticking mean but I hope that nothing wrong with my baby....I have Rh air scoop fitted to my bike btw

Sounds like it's pinking .....make sure you use good fuel and don't labour the engine so much in high gears let it rev a bit more ;)

Check your ignition timing. None of my XBs pink on normal unleaded.

Mine does.

If I use regular unleaded it guarantees to do it.

When I use high octane/Excellium/'other equivalent', it's fine.

Same on my GS

Spend a few extra pennies per litre :yup:

Worn engine mounts? Low revs, high gear = rattling mountings?

Don't be a muppet, Muppet..... :coat:

Pinking or Pre-ignition or knock...occurs if:
...the spark occurs too early in the cycle ie ignition is too advanced
...or if there are glowing carbon deposits in the combustion chamber they can act as an igniter too
...too much is asked of an engine at low revs, ie winding it on in too high a gear
...if the Octane rating is too low ie using standard UL rather than premium.

Don't let it happen as it will harm the engine (the piston is literally being hit by the explosion before it's got to TDC)...change your fuel to Ultimate or Optimax, keep the revs higher, check your advance, give it a decoke...
