Anybody tried to rebuild one ?

Still having problems with front brake pulsing, tried a different rotor and fitting kit (both new) and checked the wheel - the only thing left is the caliper itself, and I found a post (on another forum) saying that piston stick may cause problems and a rebuild solved their issue ...

EBR do sell a rebuild kit, and I was just wondering if this would be a pain to do and not worth the effort, easier to buy another caliper -

Why don't you try some pads of a different material? I thoroughly recommend Goldfrenn for getting deposits (left by stock, EBC or Braking) of discs - worked a treat with my EBR disc...

Sticking pistons are more likely to be the case if they are dirty. You can split the caliper, pull the pistons out. I use one of these:

far better than pliers:

You may find it has not got a small enough puller for the smaller pistons, however, if it is anything like the earlier Nissin's, there is a recess which allows you to pull the pistons out with a hook or screwdriver (you much protect the casting with a bit of rubber or wood).

You can then (carefully) pull the seals, clean them with a rag and brake fluid, then clean the recess with the same. If there is crud that wont shift, use a Dremel with one of these:

Clean the pistons up with brake cleaner and Solvol Autosol if needed.

Then, coat the seals with some rubber grease:

And push the pistons back in. Then bolt the caliper back together...

It is not often you need new seals nor pistons, unless they are rusted to buggery and you have pushed the pistons back in and ripped the seals to smithereens...

Can't be deposits on the rotor - fitted a new one ...

...also used the EBR fitting kit and put in new SBS pads, although a lot better it's still not perfect.

Also checked wheel run out and everything was within spec ...

... so will take a look at the caliper when I get the chance.

One of those little Soda blasters that Mick told us about, works a treat for cleaning the crap out of calipers. A quick swill under the tap and you're good to go :yup: 8-)

EBR fitting kit is fixed not floating, or at least the one Erik sold me was...

The pulsation comes from rotation of the disc, if the disc faces are parallel and there are no deposits, what can it be?

Stuck pistons are not going to give pulsation as that is not the part that is rotating...

I think you should send the disc back...

Had a similar problem with my R12S, known issue because of added tolerances, so decided to get new disks (Lucas) plus different pads (EBC HH), but the shudder remained when I went for a test ride then. It went away within about 200 mls, and now is completely gone.

If you are going to split the caliper, I think I remember it being held together with female Torx headed bolts...

Precisely, E stands for external......the fastener is male and the socket is female......I know you have trouble with this sort of thing Pash lOl
