.....at the start of every riding season I get the same old issues every year. One in particular that applies to all FI Buells but especially X1's for some reason.....fuel pumps. If you're one of the guys that lays your bike up for the winter months, be advised that this is not good for the fuel pump....probably due to modern fuels/additives. What happens is that either the pump locks solid or is well down on pressure ie. the gearotor becomes corroded or the pressure reg. seat corrodes etc. These pumps used to cost £187 but now cost £424 |

So, what's the solution then, apart from riding all year round? |

Dead right.Maz had my bike in recently, and found the pump pressure was about 35psi instead of the necessary 50. Problem resolved with used pump in better state than mine . Only lucky Maz had one available. It seems to me that it may be possible to use a similar pump from another vehicle at much less cost and more readily available, but which one ?Some years ago someone found Fiat 500 cb points costing about £2 were identical to Moto Guzzi costing £17 There may be a similar solution. |
