Was topping up the oil yesterday and noticed this on the rear disc....

Thats the worst crack on the disc and it doesn't seem to be very deep, but is it something that means i shouldn't ride it like it anymore, or something to just keep an eye on?

Be very careful with any brake disc that's showing signs of cracking if a piece breaks out of the disc it could prove fatal if the brake locks up ;)
That disc looks very badly worn ,is it high milage or has the caliper been seized at some point?

Bikes done about 20,500, I hardly use the back brake, had the original pads in the rear calliper until about 18,000 miles (and they still had plenty of material left, but I'd bought a set of front and rear pads so thought I may aswell put the rears in aswell).
I don't remember the calliper ever being seized, but that's not to say it's definitely not been.

I was wondering if there was the risk the disc may break up/shatter/whatever if i kept riding it, but after being let down numerous times by numerous 'mechanics' the buell is still the closest thing to a roadworthy form of transport I've got.

You are quite close to EBC, I think they do a rear disc for XBs.

if it were mine, i would change that disc pronto.

if its like that now and you hardly ever use it, imagine what may happen if you suddenly need to use it hard.

( but it does look as though someone has used it very hard, or it has been seized in the past )

Damn, that's the final nail in the buells coffin then!

So what's the best way to store the bike long term (probably a couple of years...)

From experience:- Unless you really really know you want to keep it forever. Don't. You'll be replacing all sorts of hardened rubber stuff that would otherwise have stayed supple. I did btw know I wanted to keep it - still have it after 30 years together. AND DO THAT DISK NOW BEFORE THE PRICE GOES UP.

Cool dry well ventilated storage - chocked up off the ground - Drain the fuel as it'll go off (bloody lead free - I hate it) - Drain oils to avoid acids therein damaging metals.

If I was unsure of keeping it I certainly would've flogged it on to some other sucker by now!

If I could afford to do the disc now, I wouldn't be taking it off the road! Time to put it up on its paddock stands, remove the battery and drain its life fluids! That'll gie me a few years to save up for a damn good rebuild!
