When I got the bike home I couldn't wait to get the boxes off the sides. I ended up cobbling an air cleaner for less than $20. I got an air cleaner for my sportster from NRHS. Now the partners have split up and we have Hammer Performance as well as NHRS. They both make nice air cleaners for the tuber Buells.

After several e-mails trying to decide what kind of air cleaner to get, Aaron made a new one just for me!

Actually it was on the website before he shipped it out, lol.

First, the $20 Auto Zone temp job.

Installed the new one from hammer, you can see Intake Air Sensor....

Too much snow for a test ride! Guess I could clean the garage.

Unlike some, I like the aluminum tail, it makes it an X1 instead of an S1. I thought the aluminum air cleaner makes the tail less out of place and carries the theme forward. Everyone has a forcewinder :shut:

Cool!

What is the story with Hammer and NRHS? Did they split on good terms?

The Dan that did the machine work started Hammer a couple of years ago and then did work for both companies. This summer he and Aaron moved to a new place. Since then it has become apparent that the short answer is No.

From Hammer's site.....http://hammerperf.com/hphistory.shtml

Not wishing to put your fire out but the reason Most preferred a forcewinder is because its more forward and doesn't foul the knee cap like your filter

Yes I know, I was going to go that way. The forward offset of this seems to be enough for me. I mocked up a sportster air cleaner to see how we would get along before I ordered it. Too much snow and salt at the moment to test ride, but I did sit on it in the garage, lol. Maybe Wed or Thurs will try it out for real. I'll be honest with a report!

:yt: Interesting stuff. :yup:

I spent 6 months in Michigan (Owosso/ Holland) and can see why so many head south for the winter. ;)

Winter was more fun when I was younger and skied. Not so much anymore. Don't think the snow kept me off my bike last winter for more than a month straight. I actually rode a lot last winter as I was breaking in my sportster build.

Got out for a nice ride today. I can say now that the air cleaner is far enough forward for me to have no knee problems. When my nuts hit the tank, my knee touches the filter. That was with armored winter textile pants. 5'-10", 33 inch inseam, guess pretty average size.
