Dear All, I am wanting to change the front fork oil in my '07 XB12s. Due to a Cockup on the administration front I ended up with an '09 service manual , and so am a little unsure of the info provided therein as it applies to my '07. What I need to know is fluid height measurement for '07 XB12s forks and what weight fluid I should buy and how much. Factor in that the nearest HD dealer is about 80 miles away( and I have a bit of an aversion to HD since the Buell split) so I would prefer to buy from a bike shop locally (only about 20 miles) . Any advice or suggestions appreciated. Regards Jim |

A quick google pulled this up http://www.spectro-oils.com/wp-content/ ... arison.pdf You are more interested in the 40 deg C data. This suggests that HD Type E, which your manual wants you to use, is about a 10W. Some like to use Screaming Eagle, which, from this chart is between a 15W and a 20W. As for level, I am guessing a level of 107mm (assuming it is the same as a Firebolt of the same year). |

Live in a place called Oropi about 20 km from Tauranga . There are a lot of good motor cycling roads within easy reach of here and not much traffic (compared to northern hemisphere) . If any of you reprobates fancy a trip "downunder " I can suggest some fabulous Buelling roads. |

Apologies for the late reply Pash. Looks interesting and will probably try something in the 10 - 15 W range at 40 degrees. (don't always get to my e mails in an expedient fashion as Broadband is a bit patchy up here--also I can be a bit of a slack Bastard ) thanks for the input |

I had my XB 12's forks (2004 model, spring rate 8.8 ) reworked and they got a SAE 10 weight oil, level set to 120 mm. Almost perfect setup. The XB 9 (2002 model, spring rate 10.0) got SAE 15 and was set to a 130 mm level, which is a bit too stiff for me for everyday use, but might prove just right on the track. |
