The Beemer GSA was converted into a nice black, shiny almost new 2009 XB12XT today... whee but......

I had a nice Staintune exhaust on the Beemer with a beautiful flat twin burble sound (and roar when the restrictor was removed) and we now have a rather quiet bike. Even the boss said she was not that enthused and it was time to look for an exhaust (it only took 5 minutes)....

But it seems there is not much selection, within our (the Royal "our") price range (around £600) for post 2008 model after market cans. All I can find are the Remus or the Free Spirits otherwise have to look at importing something like a Drummer from the US (not sure if the would fit the Eurobikes). The boss would not accept going for replacement headers (she wants a gennie for the RV).

Would like to have option of muted sounds on occaisons which leads me to the Remus but....

Recommendations and experiences would be appreciated (please try to avoid the sarcasm as we are in a state of delicate negotiation) :D

Hey Maz, is there a cure for the asthmatic fuelling on the later bikes to complement free-flowing headers?

I've fitted various aftermarket cans and headers to 08 bikes and the ECM has coped with them fairly well but until EcmSpy is developed further, you're stuck with the likes of Remus powerizers etc.

Maz,
Appreciate the point but given the prices of the cans and headers I cannot get away with getting both at the present. Is there a suitable can that I could get at the moment and then add headers and ecm management later?

Having run the Beemer GSA on track days and one a number of sessions at California Superbikes (on the GSA and Beemer 1100S Boxercup) there are three points that I acknowledge.

Firstly that the uplift in power from cans, headers and chipping only adds around 5-8% in raw power and torque although producing a different delivery and riding profile.

Secondly, as an aged rider :old: I am a very average rider round the track :oooops: , am never gonna get my knee down nor do I want to :D

Thirdly, having spent on the Beemers in the past, (chipping, shocks, xenon, cans, headers, huggers, comfort seats etc.) you can throw a lot of money at a Bike and it aint gonna transform it into a Rossi Yammie Replica if it aint designed for that.

Which means I change a bike for the enhanced pleasure of riding but have to justify each stage with a limited budget and concord from the missus.

The pre-07 and post post-07 headers have a different sized exit. If you bought a can now, it would not fit the early headers if you were to *upgrade* later.

Why not just look for a Stealth or Remus on EBay to fit your bike? It won't be as good as an 07 headered machine, but you pays your money, you takes your choice...

Get Tubbs to hack your standard can around and put the rest towards a full system.

:yt: Tis only made of MS init?? Cut a hatch n mess with the gubbins a bit n' cover it back up with some 2mm plate, sorted.
Mrs will be well impressed :yup:

I had a tedium once and very good it was two up, I could not get on with on my own but thats another story.
Painfully quiet and skint I made some long special drills and drilled a series of holes through an internal baffle exposing the cats. Sounded much better and went a bit better. Me 'nt Mrs had a right good blast around France on it n' give some sporty bikes a hard time around the bendy bits. Any way if I was to of kept that bike I would of gutted them cans, well not gutted gutted, altered I mean but I sold it so,,,,

Check out You Tube. There's plenty of ideas for altering your standard can. I've got a hacked can on my X1, (it looks std) but sounds nice. The bike goes as well with it on as any aftermarket can. It's easy to do but use a Tig, as I did on my second can for neat looking welds - Mig stuff looks a bit spattery on this material.

Alternatively, get in touch with Tubbs, he's just done a can for my 1125 8-)
