They're crap IMO.....only marginally better than the std. Showa.

Needless to say the AST is light years better than anything else available, IMO.
So what have I done to deserve that?
You really are a nasty, mean minded, bitter old twat.
Anyway, BBB, as an owner of a Works shock for some years now, I can only say that they are, IMO, over priced.
I cannot say what they are like as a direct comparison to an AST, as I have never fitted one to my bike, set it up correctly for my weight, etc, then used it over a pre-ridden route to guage any difference.
The works has probably more adjustment than you would really ever need for the road and the preload thread is annoyingly fine threaded, requiring 13 full turns just to accomodate carrying my Mrs. (and she's not exactly a heavyweight)
This is no easy task due to location of the bars and the design of the adjusting collar.
Overall finish seems to be of a very good standard and I have had no problems with it at all.
If I had to choose again, I would more than likely go for the AST.
What I admire about their setup is the way they have reacted positively and swiftly to the couple of teething problems with some of their customers' shocks.
Being an American company, I have a sneaking suspicion that Works may not be so accommodating.
