Morning all, New member here.... im based in Maidenhead, Berkshire, been riding for about 10 years, mainly on sports bikes as I used to do some track stuff. im on the look out for some advice if possible. im considering buying a Ulysess XT so we can go touring for a few months, so we need luggage etc. a few people you speak to say there unreliable and stuff but i just love the look. can anyone offer some advice on this model? thanks in advance Stu (Hopefully to be Buell owner soon) |

As far as I know, the only XT owner who's had anything but perfect service from his bike is Tricky in Retford. That fault seems to be sorted now, and was probably a fuelling issue. Mine's been superb, as I said in my pm. Most important factor in buying any Buell model is the supplying dealer. Don't be afraid to travel, say, 99 miles north-east of your current location to find a good one

As Digger says, I don't think there are that many problems with the Uglysses variants, either the X, the XT or the STT. Possibly down to the sort of person who chooses one of those rather than an S, how they ride, maintenance etc (there's inflammatory for you  )Also, as Diggsy says, head north east to make your purchase but continue as far as Newmarket rather than stopping within, say, the first half dozen miles.

I second Digger's advice to head for Black Bear. 99 miles is chicken-feed. People travel there from a lot further - and that's just for the donuts. Forums are dodgy places to go to get a feel for brand reliability. People are far more likely to post when they've had a bad experience, and that gives a false impression. The Hornet's Nest can make even the Honda Hornet seem less than perfect, and they are about as reliable as bikes get. (Added to that, this Forum has the delight that is  and his XB-hating ways...)If you fancy an XT and you like the riding experience, get one. Yes, there's a chance that it'll be unreliable. But there's a fair chance a 1200GS will be unreliable too. And plenty of us have tens of thousands of reliable XB miles under our belts. And if you haven't ridden one yet, give yourself a decent chance to get used to it. They feel very weird for the first few minutes. And very wonderful for the next few years after that... Good luck. Least reliable bike I've had (other than an old Guzzi which fell apart) was a brand new Honda Hornet 600. I bought it because of the aforementioned Guzzi, and wanted something which I could expect no problems with. Oh, how the AA man laughed... |

I had a Uly for 3 years and it only let me down once, first month of owning it, had "Cold plugs" in it? dealer put "hotter plugs" in and it never let me down again. this is before I went blind and bought a CR |

Maybe you could help make a real difference to the range and maybe reduce the frustration felt by others?

Erik doesn't need my expertise, he is fully aware of the XB's shortcomings......tis my guess he had to impliment them in order to keep the cost of the bike down to a competative level. I can almost imagine the board meeting with HD's accountants when they 1st got the development/production costs from Brembo re. the new frame
