What is the general feeling on using an optimate?

Plug it in and leave on or plug it in now and then every couple of weeks or don't use them at all?

I normally plug mine in and leave on all the time, but do occasionally go out for a ride when it's a bright day in winter. I have a friend who claims his battery got fried when he left it connected for winter months continually.

Muffin sometimes gets left on for weeks other times gets put on for a couple of weeks then the charger gets swapped to the CR ................ Muffins battery is coming up for 13 years old and the CR's is 4 ....................a correctly working optimate can't fry a battery as they tend to trickle charge to full capacity then float on and off charge .

Cheers guys. I have used one before without any problems but also used he bike frequently. I get the feeling I won't be riding this winter so much due to getting soft.

Alternate between two bikes, but only a few hours each until it reads strong! ;)

No permanent power supply.......except to the alarm system for attempted entry, and to the small thermonuclear device for when I am more than 10 miles away! lOl

I've pushed the Optimate 4 onto lots of people...after lots of people pushed it onto me. We all agreed the Battery Tender isn't in the same league.

My dirt bike is used the least often, so it is plugged into it way more often than the other bikes.

I plug whichever bike I'm not using into the Optimate (3). The connector packed up years ago, so I just fitted male and female spade connectors instead.

I've split the leads on mine, so one charger can do 2 bikes. Connectors are pence from toy/model shops. I think the're made by Tamiya or something sounding similar :?

Doesn't having 2 batteries on at the same time mess up the battery management? Wonder if there is any risk.

Like Pash, I've been doing it for years without problem. I think the charger just 'sees' one big battery with more cells :?
