hi i am looking for a fairly late xb12s. but all i can find at the mo is the ss, which to me doesent look as nice as the standard s , not that i have seen one close up, anyway what i want to know is,,, can the seat assembly be fitted from the s ,or scg onto the 12xbss long. i prefer the look of the shorter bob tail, does this make sense. .taaaa. |

brother in buells wrote: The frame from the (early) xb-s and xb-r types are narrower at the upper mounting point for the subframe the difference is 1,5 to 2 centimeters. So you could machine some material off at the upper mounting point ,but that's up to you! Better and probaby easier to wait a couple of weeks or months and you come across a nice buell (the riding season for the summer motorcyclists is almost over) The ss/sst frame is 17.4 cm wide at that point thanks for that, think you are probably right, you reckon some will come up for sale end of summer season. |

There may well be a difference between the SS and S frames though regarding seat and subframe fitment, as, IIRC the SS uses the X frame. I cannot give you a definitive answer but as far as I am aware from the searching/reading I have done, it is possible to swap the seat subframes around - the biggest problem is the cost, if you have to buy the parts new (they don't come up second hand very often) reckon on about £600 at UK dealer prices. You will need at the very least a new seat, frame rails, under tray, battery tray, seat lock bracket and cable. Then all you need to do is work out how everything fits - a service manual will be extremely handy. You may want to post this question on BadWeatherBikers as they are more likely to be able to give you a definitive answer. |
