There a certain things you don't do "budget" with and brakes are one of them, buy the best you can afford. |

I used them, Goldfren, on a XTZ750. A heavy bike with none to good brakes (sliding caliper type) on both front and rear. I seem to recall they were good in the dry but not quite so good in the wet. All-in-all they were fine, well made and half the price of the OEM ones. I had thought of trying some on the Uly as they are one third the price of EBC. At £12 it must be worth a try and it is easy enough to change them out if they are no good. Anyway pad choice is not just about cost it is also about the feel and power you like from your brakes given your riding style and road conditions. They seem to be new to the Goldfren line-up so time will tell. |

I found this, a comparison done by a large german motorcycle magazine, the bike was a 1200 Bandit (IIRC): EBC FA 229/231 HH „sehr gut“ (78 von 100 Punkten), „Testsieger“ Brembo 07.KA19/19.SA „sehr gut“ (77 von 100 Punkten) Carbone Lorraine A3+ „sehr gut“ (77 von 100 Punkten) Ferodo FDB 2048/2049 ST „gut“ (73 von 100 Punkten) AP Racing LMP 304 / 305 SF „gut“ (71 von 100 Punkten) Lucas MCB 681/682 SV „gut“ (71 von 100 Punkten) Suzuki Tokico TOYOC93FHH „befriedigend“ (70 von 100 Punkten) Goldfren S3 Racing 104/124 „befriedigend“ (69 von 100 Punkten) Louis Motorradvertrieb Saito Sintermetall „befriedigend“ (69 von 100 Punkten) As you can see, EBC is the best one (78 of 100), whereas Goldfren and Saito are on the bottom. The comment said, that Goldfren was equivalent to the OEM pads of that bike, but significantly cheaper. |

All these things are a touch subjective and are in much the same vein as tyre choice. The other thing that is not taken into account is the metal/make-up of the brake disc. It is a known fact that the pad needs to be a match for the disc for best results. Mind you EBC are hard to beat IMO. |

I fitted EBC to my City X, but didn't like the feel, so I fitted 'Braking 55's'. These look like factory fit items, and feel similar to ride with, but are nearly half the price. ![]() Call me weird, but the original items the bike came with were rather good.......so maybe next time I'll waste some more money. ![]() |

I'm still using EBC HH pads, as I like the way they work, but I understand why other riders do not. |
