What size do I need for the front isolator bolt on an XB12R, I used to use my dad's tools but it's a bit of a long journey now to borrow it. Any ideas where I can buy the correct size allen socket, preferably to fit a 3/8th drive? Thanks. |

Thanks for the link, they look better than the last set I got, I snapped 1 after about 2 mins while trying to undo the engine mount bolts. Maz, what would you reccomend? Though I doubt I could afford it lol |

Buy what is appropriate to the job in hand. Cheap tools are OK for light duties but don't skimp on ones requiring serious torque, some jobs (engine mounts...? isolators...? ) will need 1/2" drive... In spite of what some might say, you do not need to spend 'Snap Off' type of money; there are other equally good brands out there that are cheaper because they don't carry a designer label and the associated snob-value. Whilst this is especially true for 'hobby' use, I professionally (ie daily) use a mixture of Britool, Elora, Facom, Laser, Teng, even Draper & Sealey and, in thirty five years, I have never broken a socket or spanner. Part of that is due to using the appropriate tool for the job eg not using a 3/8" drive where a 1/2" is required... |

I'll have to check tomorrow, but I'm 99% sure my torque wrench is 3/8th drive, so would need a 3/8th drive socket, but that thanks for the link. All I can ever seem to find is metric Allen sockets. |

Good plan, but another child due in a couple of months means that's not possible, any tools I buy at the moment are funded by selling other things. Unless anyone here wants a 7 year old MacBook Pro in exchange for a 1/2 drive torque wrench, it'll have to be a 3/8th drive lol |

Rik, I started out as an apprentice motor mechanic aged 16.....38 years ago. I had a cantiliver toolbox full of all the shit you listed above......it didn't take me long to realise that I was only as good as the tools that were an extension of my body. I decided right then that I would invest in the very best that money could buy because the tools that I was to use would reflect on my commitment and professionalism. Today I own well over 80K's worth of the worlds very finest hand tools.....I dread to think what your kit looks like ........and trust me on this, there's not a single hand tool you could ever dream of that's missing from my box |
