was out today on my 08 uly XT,came out of a shop started her and drove a hundred yards and it cut out and refused to start,no low fuel light,i've seen that working often enough, just almost fired up,after a while sweating on the street i noticed no fuel pump sound so checked and the fuse was blown, replaced it with a spare 10amp and away we went for a few hundred yards and cut out again, fuse gone again, replaced it with the 15amp and it brought me home about 20 miles,it was about 25 degrees today, bike has about 33k kms,is it just the 10amp fuse,I'm afraid its only the start of a problem, could the fuel pump be about to go?,is it a big job to remove?drain fuel etc??
thanks
John

For your own safety and to prevent you finding yourself sat on a towering inferno you should get your bike sent directly to me. Then while i'm riding around on it testing it you can relax knowing you are completely safe lOl
I think you will find it is a reasonably common problem with XB fuel pumps and could possibly need the pump removing and heat shrink insulation placing over the offending wire that is causing the short and blowing the fuse.

got the pump out,the wires are perfect,no sign of damage, there actualy in a piece of braided type plastic wire where they pass through the metal sleeve thats got the sharp edge that does the damage, dont no is this a factory job or something that was done before i got it,the o rings are swolen up so might be hard to get it back in,wonder if the fuse blowing was a 1 off with the heat or is there something else going, had her out for 30 miles to use up the petrol before draining it with no probs???

My 09 Uly had a habit of blowing fuel pump fuses usually at slow speed on a hot day with a low fuel level. According to the BadWeb forum it is caused by a bad batch of pumps fitted around this time not by the well known issue of wires wearing through and shorting out.
Last time it happened about 3k miles ago I also put a 15 amp fuse in to get me home. I have just left it in and it has not happened since, not that I would recommend this fix to any one.
When the weather is hot like today I use my Guzzi V11 instead so may be this also helps.

I put the 10amp Fuse back and done a few hundred kms in sweltering heat and no probs, maybe it healed itself!

Uly was suffering from the fuel pump being on all the time, this points to a short somewhere of the switched earth to, erm, earth - same issue to this thread but different wire. I checked the brown and yellow wire on the pump connector and it was shorted to ground so I pulled the pump.

With the pump pulled you really had to look hard to see the chaffed insulation on the wire, sufficient to carry sufficient current.

Easy to say cover it with heatshrink, but in reality you either cut the wire itself and resolder, unsolder the wire from the seal/plug that passes through the pump body or use a massive heatshrink that the spade terminal can pass through. I chose the latter and passed all through.

All back together now but I'll pust some pics of the naughty parts of the pump...

Link to another pump chaff thread for completeness... :D
