prepared the bike for MOT test today by putting std silencer on.

all done, back together, started and let it run for a few minutes.

suddenly bike stops , lights stay on but neutral light has gone out and wont come back. no electric start activity.

bike will start with the clutch pulled in , then the neutral light flickers on and off with the revs.

diagnosis : there is a poor connection on the neutral light switch ( and the clutch and sidestand safety cut-outs are both doing their job correctly - they are new ).

does the neutral light switch do this sort of thing a lot on old tubers ? is there anything else i need to worry about ?

Check it isn't just corrosion/ a bad connection at the switch, if it still plays up put up with it for a while because you might find that after it's been used and got to full temp a couple of times it will maybe start to work again. I know I'm not the only person that has had that happen ;)
