As per the title, my front pad retaining pin on the caliper is seized preventing pad removal. Any suggestions please. Oh, it's on my X1.

I'm assuming that you got the slot-head plug out OK?
First, buy a new pin (search on here, it's the same as a Honda one). And some anti-seize compound to refit it with.
As with any seized fastener, use a decent penetrating 'oil' (not that WD40 shite) and leave to soak. Tap the end of the pin sharply. Reapply penetrant.
Use a good quality hex bit (in a socket as opposed to an allen key) and, with a good length bar, try to move it just a tiny bit, teasing it gently back and forth rather than jerking it (hence the length of the bar which is for control, not for outright force), until it starts to free up... or else break the tool or round out the hex!... if it does round out you can often tap in a slightly larger torx or spline bit which will broach its own way in but go easy as you don't want the head to spread. If all that fails you could try a very small amount of warmth (not heat) on the 'ear' that contains the thread but beware of heat damaging the caliper seals... ie don't get it any warmer than it would get in use.
If you're not capable, competent and confident or don't understand (or don't work with your hands regularly), don't do any of the above, just get it to Maz!

had the same problem
i used my dremmel with a cutting disc, cut the pin middle section out about 10mm in length
removed the pads, then managed to release the remainder of the pin using grips
not the Rolls Royce :oooops: way but it worked :mrgreen:

Rik's way is a much way TBH :yup:

I've recently been told a trick by an old boy who said that if you heat a stuck fastener up (not silly hot ;) ) and then touch the end with a candle, the wax gets drawn into the threads by capiliary action.
Never tried it, so no idea if it works - or not

Interesting it is seized as I was there when it was removed in July last year and I don't recal it being difficult then......when my S1W got the disc off your bike before you bought it.

I hope one of the methods above gets it out

Thanks for the replies. It was actually the slotted cover screw that was siezed. Finally got it out with a socket bit giving me more leverage.
Yeah thanks Jez. Fucking A that mechanic. I found another of his bodges yesterday. It did actually result in a really interesting story which I will share with you all once I get to my laptap. It involved a very interesting man and world speed records. My disc came of another X1 sold by the same place.
