Post subject:  LED or not LED, that is the question
I have just hacked up the tail on my xb, relatively simple actually, looks far better.
The only problem now is I have no where to put my indicators so I’m going to make up a bracket that holds the number plate and new indicators.

Now my question is, should I buy LED indicators or just smaller normal bulb ones. I know I need a relay with the LED ones to slow the flash rate down but why not just stick with the normal type and I don’t have to add/change anything, are LEDs better??

Also anyone know the Midnight Black colour code, need to touch up the rear.

Good morning sir.

I like the OE ones as they can be seen and tbh they aren't that bad looking compared to the originals on most bikes.

LED's will last longer, but at more expense initially with the outlay for the indicators plus the relay.

It's entirely up to you. It won't matter which type of indicator you have anyway as other road users tend to ignore them :evil:

Why don't you fit a new rear light with inbuilt indicators?

Kellerman are now doing micro indicators that double (triple?) up as stop and tail lamps, too.
Guess what - they are EU approved, for rear use, obviously.
Not exactly cheap though.......

I'm intrigued about these regs, Maz, because Sportsters have, for several years, featured single lens units with brakes & indicators combined, just like those which Thorks posted. Followed one down the road on Sunday and they look nice and clean.

Statutory indicators
The precise position and angle of visibility of direction indicators are not part of this inspection, but they must be on each side of the longitudinal axis of a solo machine. If a side car is attached, the indicators must be on opposite sides of the combination.

Buell front STT indicators should be illegal too. They flap up and down like the bikes trying to take off, when the bikes stationary and ticking over!

Personally I think the box standard indicators are bland and boring but perfectly adequate and do the job. If your wanting to personalise your bike a little then smaller LED's is an option. Benefits are brighter, last longer and look the part. There are all sorts out there to choose from, some cheap and chearfull and some quite frankly way to expensive for what they are considering all they are is a casing with some LED's inside. I opted for middle of the road price and also I have used this brand before with no issues, I got the Oxford Mercury set in black and they look fantastic, they also come with built in resistors so no worries there, cost £36.99 a pair. Casing is aluminimum and the lens is tinted with no orange. Just my choice :D

Most of the fuzz would not know themselves, but if its really loud or really hard to see then they might think mmmm is that legal, but they are not 100% sure, so unless you attract them i.e. 102mph they probably wont pull you, but hey thats just probably..... By the way the comment I just made is a direct quote from my uncle who is a traffic cop.....
