Can the damage be polished out and then blasted with some media like nut shell to restore the finish? There had to be some process to do it in the first place.

Have you got any photos of the gouged alloy? If it's not too deep I'll give it a go with the polishing mop. I've been reading up on brushed finishes too. I'd be happy to give it a go. Could save a fortune and if I fuck up the finish it can always be polished out and powder coated etc

I don't think that they'll polish out leaving an even surface. Is there some kind of heat resistant filler that will withstand powder coating, as you could probably replicate the brushed finish?

I was thinking of rubbing it down the best I can and getting Pete to 'wrap' that bit. Worth a go I reckon.

I'll take it off once the new plastic arrives from America on a bed of diamonds - well, it'd better do at those shipping prices It looks like it's fixed to the plastic but I've not really looked at it in detail. I need to have a look at the exploded drawings to see if it shows it.
