Hi there, 2006 Ully which has a thing mounted in the tail beside the power outlet socket. Is this the thing that cuts power in the event of the bike falling over? Can it be removed from the bike? Does it have to sit flat, relative to the ground? Could it be installed with a slight angle, relative to the ground?
I want to remove the tail section, grab rails and back rest but I dont know what to do with this thing.

Yes, that is the bank angle sensor and it needs to mounted flat. Buell previously mounted them just in front of the battery (the bracket is still there), but moved them to the tail in a recall, as in the original position, in some circumstances they were seen to not work correctly. You could take it out and turn it off in ECM Spy to stop the CEL coming on, but do you really want to? If the bike goes down when it is running, without the bank angle sensor it won't automatically shut the engine off.
